I often wonder why did those people in Pompeii did not immediately flee the city as the volcano broke out. It took nearly 12 hours people started dying⦠so why didn't they?
And I believe the answer is the same reason why we don't take action -- hope.
We write for others. In the hope that they will read our words and find some light along their own path. But let's be honest here, we mostly write in the hope that others will read our words and fall to the floor at how good a writer we are and why haven't won a nobel yet and we should totally write a book 'cause you know, we're such a great writer. "Why don't you write more often?!?" they ask us in our continued imagination.
Anyway, back to hope. It's a bloody good thing. Jumping off of a cliff with a rope tied to our waists in the hope that it will pull us back... It will, right? Never go bungee jumping with an ex. And on that note, exes can't be friends. So definitely don't go.
But can we hope to be friends with our exes? Since we're on about hope, you know? It's hope, not stupidity. So, no.
What's the difference between hope and stupidity? I guess that's really where we all get trumped up, don't we? Unless of course we lose all hope and just couldn't be arsed anymore. Look at me being all British and all. I'm such a good colonised Indian I could get a knighthood. Wait, that's not what they give knighthoods for, do they? But let's hope.
Back to stupidity. Another word for naivety. The latter being the polite version that I'd use to tell my friend when she's hoping he'd be different this time because he's changed you know. Lol, he hasn't. And he won't.
Now that's a place where we don't hope he'd change but we hope we'd find someone better. That's the good kinda hope. The former though? Stupidity. I guess it comes down to two things if we're to understand the difference between hope and stupidity: our own boundaries and time-tested life lessons granny repeated to us.
For instance, once a cheater, always a cheater. Now you can choose to ignore this life lesson thinking you've got some extra divine light shining on you and he won't cheat this time (lol) but that ain't wise, girl. Or you might establish your own firm boundary that you'll forgive him once and only once. Now that's cool as long as you stick to it. Better than giving in, hoping he won't do it again and when he inevitably does, you become a hit teary mess again and forgive him, again, hoping surely this was the last time.
Ok this is getting depressing but you get the point.
There has to be reasoning behind hope. And a bit beyond. That's the definition of miracles which do happen, so. Looks like we're back to square one. A place where hope knows no boundaries. So let's put boundaries and life lessons so that our hope does not become...naivety.

Wind's eye β¨
That's what it was originally called.
And with time, the word morphed and congealed into what we call it today - Window.
Because around a 1000 years ago, windows weren't so big. They were little holes high up in the walls to let wind in. Wind's eye. Window.

1. I guess the point I wanted to make was that these debates will go on forever because they ultimately have no one right answer.
2. Debating these is also a waste of time because even if the Kohinoor is returned to India... how will that help feed the poor, build better roads & schools & hospitals? As a nation, that's where the debate should be and history should be a lesson, instead of something to bicker over. National pride can be found in building a better future for everyone instead of fighting over the past.
3. The discussion around the Kohinoor and the past and its artifacts should be about what they represent. And ultimately they belong in a museum with facts stated about them. And this is where I have the main beef -- I'm ok if the Kohinoor stays in the British museum..but the plaque next to it should tell the real history. Kohinoor, as the plaque currently states, was NOT a "gift" from India.

What do you think humans were doing 17000 years ago?
Making kickass cave paintings. I know the first impression is that these paintings are "obviously" so simplistic compared to the art we see now... But think again.
π‘ This Late Stone Age cave artwork represents the arriving of human intelligence to its modern level.
β¨ They didn't just pick up red stones and start scratching the walls. Studied closely, one realises that our cool-as-fuck ancestors actually made a first layer on the walls and then on top of that drew what we see now... Why? 'coz the first layer makes the shine out!
π How did they see clearly inside dark caves? They made candles using animal fat + wooden sticks! π€
Enjoy!
