Hi all

I have just turned on the YouTube "Community" feature on the channel. This serves as kind of a forum, like a subreddit for the channel within YouTube.

The most significant feature is that viewers can actually make posts. This might be a good way for viewers to suggest future videos or post problems.

As of now, only subscribers can make posts. Non-subscribers can still view and comment.

Not sure how many of you can even see this post. Let's see where this goes.

For users with commercial and education licenses, do you see the configure toolbar after the Sept 2023 update?

One of the biggest challenges when it comes to using a parametric modeller is in resolving or troubleshooting the timeline. Mastering the timeline is an indispensable skill to ensure that your model can regenerate successfully as you make changes. Out of pure frustration, many of us would often ignore these warnings and just resort to adding more steps to the timeline to get what we want!

I am thinking about creating a video on how to resolve/troubleshoot the timeline. With this post, I am hoping to gather some feedback on what are some of the common challenges that you face when fixing timeline errors. Feel free to vent your frustrations below!

I have been working on this video for the past week. Adding some finishing touches. Should be ready for release a few days from now. In the meantime, have some fun thinking about an approach!

I'm experimenting with the idea of releasing a picture of an upcoming model a few days before the video so that the community can think about how to model it and share some ideas. I have also created a link for you to download the model (with no history). Do give this some thought and we can compare our methods once the video is out!

The following link was generated using the public share function within Fusion 360:

Have you trialed the new product design extension? If so, what are your thoughts?

Just some words here to mark the channel reaching 10K subscribers.

We celebrated the milestone of 1K subscribers back in Sept 2020. That did not seem too long ago! Since then, the channel has taken on a life of its own. After reaching that milestone, I did suffer from a lack of motivation for a while. With constant encouragement from the community, I am glad to say that I have managed to publish at least a video a week for the past one and a half years now.

In order to produce a concise and polished video, there is a certain amount of work involved in testing, scripting, recording and editing. Every minute of video that you see roughly equates to an hour's worth of background work. It does seem like a lot of work just to produce a short video but I truly believe that this provides for the best learning experience. The goal is to accumulate a rich library of evergreen videos that can provide value for years to come.

For a channel of this nature to be successful, channel credibility is critical. It is something I knew I had to earn gradually. I think I have achieved that to some degree. It is always heartening to see the channel being mentioned positively on Reddit and Autodesk forums. I appreciate all viewers who have helped to promote the channel.

Moving forward, the core of the content would continue to be solid modelling and surfacing. Gradually, I hope to forage more into assemblies, sheet metal and t-splines.

I will strive to publish a weekly video for as long as I can. I am also working on a long term project with a working title of "How to model anything?" This is essentially a step by step approach on how to analyse different shapes and formulate a strategy on modeling. I see this as a huge undertaking as the scope is pretty wide. My hope is to publish this by mid-2022.

The channel would be nothing without its community and the constant exchange of ideas. I am extremely grateful for all of the feedback and encouragement.

I especially want to thank @Adam12 , ‪@NorMaker3d‬ and @Stefan Guiton. They were here long before the channel even reached 1000 subscribers. Back in the early days, they were often the only ones commenting on my videos. Their words really spurred me on to keep going. I also want to thank all my generous patrons on Patreon and all those who bought me coffees.

Lastly, I hope you have learnt from my videos as much as I have learnt from making them.

Do consider supporting the channel by buying me a coffee or by becoming a patron on Patreon. Do only contribute what you can afford. Thank you for the support!

In your Fusion 360 (or any other CAD program) learning journey, where have you learnt the most? Looking back at my own journey, the one thing that has moved the needle the most is by doing my own projects/reverse engineering. This can range from designing and printing regular household items to trying to replicate a consumer product on the shelf. I have learnt far more from doing these than all the videos that I have watched on YouTube or other learning platforms. It is not even close. All the case studies that I have presented thus far are basically practice diaries! Watching videos can often lull you into a false sense of security. Also, YouTube is over-saturated with beginner content. With this flood of content crowding the space, this can inhibit users from trying something out of their comfort zone.

Where have you learnt the most?

The recent video on making a circular pattern without rotation was inspired by a post on the official Autodesk Fusion 360 forum.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LISBo...

Moving forward, I will try to make more problem-centric videos. I will be looking at the forums to search for interesting problems and showcase them as videos on this channel. If you put in the effort to read the forum once it a while, it can really be a gold mine of information.

If you have been watching my videos for some time, you would have noticed that I almost never use the press/pull command. Almost a year ago, I published a video outlining my reservations about the command. I consider that one of the more important videos in my library, although the view count suggests otherwise! Looking at many videos on YouTube, I realise that many users perform a press/pull without truly understanding what is going on under the hood.

I am interested to find out the general use of the press/pull command among the community. How often do you use it? Why do you use it? Looking forward to your comments.
