It is with profound sadness that we confirm a tragic accident involving Forest Lake Academy students on Monday afternoon during spring break. Several students were involved in a canoeing accident on Lake Jessamine when their canoe overturned. Three of the teens were rescued, while one student remained missing. With heavy hearts, we must share that law enforcement located and recovered the body of the missing student on Tuesday evening from Lake Jessamine.

We are heartbroken for the student’s family, friends, and all those affected by this tragic loss. We ask that you continue to uphold them in your prayers. Please also pray for the students involved in the accident, the FLA students as they return from spring break, and the entire FLA community.

A vigil was held Monday evening at the Forest Lake Seventh-day Adventist Church, where family members, friends, church members, FLA teachers, staff, and classmates gathered to support the family and comfort one another. The church has also organized a Meal Train for the family for donations. As our Forest Lake Academy principal has shared, moments like these remind us that our Adventist family is a community bound together by faith, love, and care for one another.

Forest Lake Academy is actively preparing to have a robust support system in place, including counselors and pastors, for our students, teachers, and staff as they return to school next week and process this tragedy.
