from Anna the baker lighting her oven
before five in the morning to Ernst
the candlemaker lighting every street
lamp by hand at dusk, from the
clocktower bell at noon to the last
candle burning in the inn window
at midnight.
Nothing complicated happens here.
That is exactly the point.
🥐 The baker arrives before five.
She leaves one roll on the
windowsill every morning.
It is always gone by sunrise.
She has never seen who takes it.
🕯️ The candlemaker lights every lamp
on Lantern Lane by hand each evening.
He pauses at the stone bridge
every night to look at the mountains.
He has done this for fifty years.
⏰ The clocktower marks every hour.
The whole town hears it.
At noon, everyone stops.
🧶 The knitting cottage is always warm.
Everyone ends up there eventually.
🫖 The tea cottage never turns anyone
away in winter.
🪆 Every toy the maker finishes has
a small carved heart underneath.
Not visible unless you look.
Always there.
🌸 The flower shop brings colour
to a world that is white
for five months of the year.
🚂 The station master rings the bell
by hand because he prefers
