During the final chaotic moments of the war in Afghanistan with U.S. forces withdrawing in Kabul, a devastating suicide bomber struck the civilian entrance known as "Abbey Gate" at Hamid Karzai International Airport.

Major Geoff Ball was commander of Ghost Company, 2d Battalion, 1st Marines that day at Abbey Gate and witnessed the heroism of his Marines first hand.
