President Donald Trump wrote on social media Friday that he will soon make an "irrefutable" case to require voter identification for the 2026 midterm elections.

"I have searched the depths of Legal Arguments not yet articulated or vetted on this subject, and will be presenting an irrefutable one in the very near future. There will be Voter I.D. for the Midterm Elections, whether approved by Congress or not!"

In a subsequent post, the president said that he would sign an executive order to implement ID requirements.

Any executive order setting federal rules on voting is likely to face swift legal challenges on constitutional grounds. Article I of the U.S. Constitution says that the states will control "Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections."

Amazon's Ring has canceled its partnership with surveillance company Flock Safety as pushback builds against Ring's plans for an AI-driven camera network.

In October 2025, Ring began a partnership with Flock, which develops license plate readers and surveillance cameras. The companies planned to expand an existing Ring program called Community Requests, where Ring owners can "choose to share specific videos with local police in response to requests for help with active investigations." That expansion was never launched, the companies say.

And last week Ring debuted "Search Party" in a Super Bowl ad, pitching consumers on an AI system that would use opted-in Ring cameras to locate lost pets.

But public sentiment toward the proposed pet-searching program quickly soured. The Electronic Frontier Foundation warned that such biometric surveillance was ripe for abuse. Sen. Edward Markey (D-MA) wrote a letter to Amazon, warning that the public was making it clear they opposed "Ring’s constant monitoring and invasive image recognition algorithms."

The Trump administration this week began cuts to $600 million in funding used to track and prevent HIV and STDs in four Democrat-led states.

The Centers of Disease Control plans to suspend grants to local public health agencies, hospitals, NGOs and universities in California, Colorado, Illinois and Minnesota.

Cuts began the week of February 9 and are expected to continue over the next several weeks.

Historically, the groups used the money to study the spread of HIV and STDs, track outbreaks or offer pre-exposure prophylaxis.

Some funding cuts would also apply to groups that supported children's gender transition or provided social programs for LGBTQ+ adults.

Adam Mosseri, the head of Meta's Instagram, testified Wednesday during a landmark social media trial in Los Angeles that he disagrees with the idea that people can be clinically addicted to social media platforms.

The question of addiction is a key pillar of the case, where plaintiffs seek to hold social media companies responsible for harms to children who use their platforms. Meta Platforms and Google's YouTube are the two remaining defendants in the case, which TikTok and Snap have settled.

Scripps News has confirmed that a small amount of money has been deposited into the bitcoin wallet identified in the original ransom note tied to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie.

The source of the deposit is unknown, and because it is so small, it does not appear to be an attempt to pay the ransom, which was several million dollars.

The activity occurred hours after the FBI released images and video from a doorbell camera showing the person they believe may been involved in the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, mother of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie.

The Environmental Protection Agency this week plans to repeal a key legal finding and regulatory framework that currently says greenhouse gases are responsible for global warming and threats to human health.

"On Thursday, President Trump will be joined by Administrator Lee Zeldin to formalize the rescission of the 2009 Obama-era endangerment finding,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed on Tuesday.

The Trump administration first proposed the rule change in July of 2025. It would repeal the EPA's current legal support for regulations on vehicles, energy generation and other sources of greenhouse gas emissions.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office said Friday it is investigating the legitimacy of a new message related to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie.

"Investigators are actively inspecting the information provided in the message for its authenticity," the Pima County Sheriff's Office state on X.

Authorities did not disclose the contents of the latest message. Media outlets, including KGUN, previously received a ransom note demanding several million dollars in Bitcoin. The note set a payment deadline of Thursday, followed by a second deadline of Monday, and threatened to kill Nancy Guthrie if the money was not received.

Authorities have not confirmed the authenticity of the ransom note.

A federal jury in Arizona on Thursday found that Uber must pay out $8.5 million to a plaintiff who alleged a driver working for the company raped her in 2023.

The verdict may open the way for similar cases to proceed. The trial concluded Thursday was the first of six test cases that could show whether thousands more may be argued or decided in a similar fashion.

More than 3,000 women have sued Uber, claiming the company failed to properly vet drivers. Uber says 99.9% of trips in 2021 and 2022 ended without any safety reports.

The Trump administration on Thursday launched TrumpRx, a website it says will help patients buy prescription drugs directly at a discounted rate at a time when health care and the cost of living are growing concerns for Americans.

“You’re going to save a fortune,” President Donald Trump said at the site’s unveiling. “And this is also so good for overall health care.”

The government-hosted website is not a platform for buying medications. Instead, it's set up as a facilitator, pointing Americans to drugmakers’ direct-to-consumer websites, where they can make purchases. It also provides coupons to use at pharmacies. The site launches with over 40 medications, including weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy.

The site is part of a larger effort by the Trump administration to show it's tacking the challenges of high costs. Affordability has emerged as a political vulnerability for Trump and his Republican allies going into November's midterm elections, as Americans remain concerned about the cost of housing, groceries, utilities and other staples of middle-class identity.
