“You are all imbued with the same drive, determination and fighting spirit that have carried your forebears to victory. I can only wish each of you every possible success and good fortune…”

As Lord High Admiral, The King has presided over the Lord High Admiral’s Divisions at Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC) in Dartmouth.

The King inspected troops, including Officers from the Commonwealth and other countries including Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

His Majesty himself joined Dartmouth over 50 years ago, on the 16th September 1971, as a member of the Blake Division. As a graduate entrant, he spent six weeks at Dartmouth, learning about leadership, navigation and the ways of the Royal Navy.

The Royal Family has very close links with the College and The King’s father, grandfather and great grandfather, all spent time at Dartmouth.

As the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence comes to a close on Human Rights Day, we reflect on The Duchess of Edinburgh’s ongoing work to support women and girls affected by conflict around the world.

Her Royal Highness champions the Women, Peace and Security agenda and the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative, working to ensure women are at the centre of conflict resolution and peace processes and emphasising the importance of a survivor-centred response.

Since 2019, The Duchess has travelled globally to meet women peacebuilders and survivors of conflict-related sexual violence, including visits to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Chad, Kosovo, Lebanon, South Sudan and Sierra Leone.

Through this work, Her Royal Highness continues to raise awareness, champion progress, challenge taboos and draw attention to the voices of those denied their fundamental rights.

Today at Windsor Castle, The King presented Ruth Dodsworth with an OBE for services to supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse.

Ruth is a broadcaster and journalist, best known as a weather presenter for ITV Cymru Wales. She is also an ambassador for Surviving Economic Abuse and uses her public profile to raise awareness of domestic abuse, including economic abuse – a form of coercive control that often remains hidden.

Drawing on her own experiences, Ruth has become a powerful voice for survivors, helping to break the silence around an issue that affects so many.
