Nag Panchami or The Cobra Festival 🐍

Nag Panchami is a yearly festival where there are a lot of competitions happening all in one single day in Varanasi.

This event in the photo’s was probably one the craziest ones. In the middle of the street, blocking active traffic, gathering more than a hundred people who all wanted to witness pehalwans swinging Gada and Jori.

I was able to pull off a giant Gada thanks to one of the guru ji’s and we all had a fantastic time here together.

The full video about this event is live now! https://youtu.be/9NDDcrrX2C0?feature=...

Wrestling is TOUGH. I started exploring the ancient sport of Kushti Wrestling in India because they traditionally used gadas and mudgars in their practice to strengthen their upper body and core.

Over the years I’ve started to enjoy it and have become slightly better haha. I posted a video where I wrestle the Guru of Swaminath Akhara in Varanasi. It’s a treat you should definitely watch! https://youtu.be/BsOIG-o46m4

The Flowing Dutchman

It’s not the practice.

I have been practicing these four movement practices a lot lately:

1. Swinging tools
2. Strength training
3. Yoga
4. Freediving

Why do we move? What is the motivation or the purpose? Those are important questions for every action we take.

And for me this has been of growing importance. Sometimes the goal can be competition, friends, muscles, health, flexibility, or strength. But what does this goal serve in the actual practice?

It can be a motivation to keep returning to a practice, but does it increase the connection to oneself?

The more I grow the more I realize how stuck in my head I really was 10 years ago.

And the more I learn the more I realize the answer is right inside me.

It’s not the practice that will bring you to the present, to the inner peace, to yourself.

It’s you, it’s me.

And this can be applied to any movement practice. The awareness and the intention to go inside is what makes all the difference.

Sure it helps if someone’s intentionally guiding you inwards, which is usually done in yoga.

It helps when you actually have to quiet down because otherwise you won’t reach any depth like in freediving.

Or when the movement complexity or weight required is so much that all you can do is quiet down.

Those answers can be found in a specific practice, but can then be applied to any other practice.

And every practice can be an invitation to go inwards, to work in.

But it’s not that easy. It requires self discipline to make it a habit to set an intention, to keep awareness high. Especially when you’re on your own.

I feel like I’m at a breakthrough moment where I can finally feel an opening. An opening into a deeper part where there’s only stillness and awareness. Where I don’t need guidance anymore to go inward.

And all of these practices are now my guides to get me there.

Aho 🙏🏻❤️

The five categories of Dutch Flow Academy 🌀

These five arts resemble basically all the possibilities for the swinging arts. At DFA we’ve segmented them in a way that makes it possible to start learning with your swinging tool, whatever it is.

All of the courses are professionally shot and edited and most of them include a student who is being taught along.

All the categories have a similar course path that will feel similar in it’s foundation and outline, yet identifies the unique differences between the categories.

Gada/Mace | If you want to go up in weight, or you’ve got a relatively long mace, or you’ve got an adjustable mace, this is the category for you.

Heavy Clubs | Learn to swing two heavy clubs at the same time. Using the closed style of swinging this categorie focuses on heavy clubs that are usually called mudgars, clubbells or meels.

Light Clubs | Learn how to swing with an open style, extending the arms above the head. The light clubs categorie teaches you the through extensive courses how to master the lighter clubs based on the English tradition. Usually referred to as Indian Clubs.

Heavy Club | How to swing a heavy club. A Heavy Club, or Mudgar, clubbell or karlakattai, is great for stability, strength in the upper and lower body.

Mace Flow | The most extensive and creative course path we offer. The amount of possibilities are endless for this categorie that is suited for a relatively light mace (4-8kg).

The beautiful thing about the swinging arts is that if you get better at one tool, you’ll improve at the other. It’s a beautiful path with endless amounts of skill progression.

Join one of our courses now and start exploring the wonderful world of the swinging arts 🙏🏻

The Flowing Dutchman

31 years around the clock 🎉

Yesterday I made myself more comfortable with being in my 30s. What a ride.

It’s fascinating how you can look back and feel into past moments where you had a certain outlook and perspective on life.

You don’t really know what’s going to happen. Every new day is literally a surprise and you wouldn’t have expected any of it.

I’m well aware that I’d be very proud of myself if I’d look forward from a past time.

Proud of how
I’m evolving
I’m continuously pushing myself to greater depths
I keep expanding my horizon
I don’t give up
I relentlessly follow my dreams
I’m more presently aware
I allow myself to fail more often
I’m more gentle with myself
I’m attracting beautiful souls in my life
and so much more..

Yet, I and we are continually adjusting to our current situation. The focus is put so quickly on what you’re lacking. And that is why it’s so important to compare yourself to yourself.

Looking back at how far you’ve climbed instead of how far you still need to climb. That’s what it is. That’s how I intend to experience my birthday.

I’m proud of myself 🙏🏻❤️ Aho

I choose growth ⤵️

I’ve been pursuing growth and development actively for almost 10 years. It’s not always been easy.

The self that wants growth is usually not the self that wants to let go.

In nature, bushfires are necessary for healthy soil and a healthy forest.

Burning off the deadwood is as painful as it gets. It requires letting go.

The act of letting go sounds so peaceful, but it’s experienced as the exact opposite to your ego. The ego that loves to cling.

Letting go is a shedding process of attachments that no longer serve the self. Like peeling an onion of unnecessary layers.

It takes courage to let go. It takes courage to dive into your deepest fears and look them straight in the eyes.

I’m on this path of letting go, of choosing growth and love over fear.

Every challenge has become a meaningful challenge. Every obstacle has become an opportunity to adapt, learn, and evolve.

I’ve got a lot to learn, I’ve got a lot that I need to let go off.

But every time I go through a bushfire, I come out clearer and more grounded.

I’m more capable of being present with what is. More capable to experience the present in all of it’s fullness.

I’m kinder to myself. I’m allowing more flow in my life. And that’s what I yearn for.

Life is a rhythm and the only way to live is to dance and flow with the rhythm ❤️
