Hi everyone, I'm Anne at Martin House Flowers. I garden in Northern Illinois on 1/3 of an acre in zone 5B. I started this YouTube channel two years ago, after retiring from my 40 year career. I love spending as much time in my 4 year old garden. I love to grow Cutflowers from seed and my garden is full of hydrangeas and roses.

I'm originally from Ontario, Canada and had to adjust my gardening experience to my current growing zone. I hope you join me as I go through my journey of gardening and growing cut flowers.

Just wanted to share an update on my “stalled snapdragons”….At 6 weeks, with half strength fertilizer applied, they are finally starting to grow! The first image shows the potted up 2024 pelleted seeds that were originally broadcasted in a recycled container. The 2nd image of soil blocks hold the 2025 pelleted seeds (I have 8 trays of these/160 blocks). I ended up leaving 8 of 9 trays as soil blocks, after attempting to pot up one row of tiny seedlings in organic potting mix. The “potted up” tiny stalled seeds are shown at the far right, next to the healthier 2024 seedlings (last pic).

Lesson learned, pelleted seeds can take a few weeks longer than non-pelleted seeds. Potting up super tiny 🌱wasn’t a benefit vs just leaving them in their original soil blocks. Adding 1/2 strength fertilizer was helpful to boost the tiny seedlings in their soil blocks.

Good Morning Garden Friends! Just wanted to share all of my amaryllis in bloom. In the last pic, my Double Alaska got so tall I had to cut the stem and put it in a vase. I’m happy to report that I successfully re-bloomed last year’s Double Nymph! I planted it outdoors over the summer, dug it up in November and potted it up and put it under my grow lights till it budded up.
