Today marks another Independence Day for our country, a day meant to celebrate freedom, honor our nation's progress, and cherish the sacrifices of those who fought for this liberty. But as I sit here in Kolkata, the city I call home, I am filled not with pride, but with deep shame and heartbreak.

It breaks my heart to witness such horrific events unfold once again in Kolkata, my city, where I was born and raised. The recent rape case, being referred to as *Nirbhaya 2.0*, is a brutal reminder of how vulnerable women still are in our society. As a proud citizen of Kolkata, I feel utterly ashamed and deeply disturbed.

This is not just another incident; it's a reflection of a broken system that continues to fail its women. The pain, the fear, the trauma – it’s unimaginable, and yet, it is something countless women have to endure. We must stand up, raise our voices, and demand justice. Not just for the victim, but for every woman who deserves to live in a society free from fear.

Change has to come, and it has to come now.

As a 15-year-old, I may not have lived through the Nirbhaya case from Delhi firsthand, but I feel the pain and horror of what the victim went through. It's terrifying to think that in a place we call home, something so horrific can happen again.
