Hydrops fetalis is a serious condition characterized by abnormal accumulation of fluid in β₯2 fetal compartments, such as ascites, pleural effusion, pericardial effusion, or generalized skin edema.
π Remember:
β’ Immune hydrops- commonly due to severe Rh incompatibility
β’ Nonimmune hydrops- more common; associated with cardiac abnormalities, chromosomal disorders, infections, and other causes
β’ Key ultrasound findings- fetal edema, ascites, pleural/pericardial effusion
β’ Management- depends on the underlying cause and severity
π Exam Tip:- Always distinguish immune vs. nonimmune hydrops fetalis.
