DC Kathua reviews Telecom infrastructure progress, Calls for expedited resolution of bottlenecks

Kathua, September 10: Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma today chaired a meeting of the District Telecom Committee to review the progress of telecom infrastructure and connectivity initiatives in the district.

At the outset, comprehensive discussions were held on land allotment, CAT V/VI/VII cases, electricity connections to mobile towers, telecom services in border villages, 5G street furniture, Amended BharatNet (ABN), CBUD implementation and Samridh Gram Panchayat initiatives.

The Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned departments to adopt a proactive, coordinated and time-bound approach towards resolving pending issues and removing procedural bottlenecks. He stressed that seamless inter-departmental coordination is essential for timely execution of telecom infrastructure projects and strengthening reliable telecom connectivity and digital services, particularly in the border and rural areas of the district.

The DC directed the Forest Department to expedite clearance of all pending cases pertaining to the Telecom Department to ensure that telecom infrastructure works are not delayed.

He further instructed the Telecom Department to obtain prior permission from the concerned development agency before undertaking any telecom-related work, besides ensuring adherence to prescribed procedures and proper coordination with the concerned agencies.

The meeting also reviewed the status of pending matters and emphasized their expeditious disposal to facilitate better telecom connectivity and effective implementation of ongoing initiatives.

Among others, ADDC Kathua, ADC Kathua, Mahima Madan, ADC Basohli Vishavjeet Singh, ACD Kathua, XEN PWD, XEN PDD, XEN PHE and representatives of the Telecom Department attended the meeting.

DC Kathua chairs Sponsorship Foster Approval committee meeting

Committee recommends support for 569 Children

Kathua, September 10: Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma, Chairman of the Sponsorship Foster Approval Committee (SFAC), today chaired a meeting of the committee to review cases under the Mission Vatsalya initiative.

During the meeting, the committee recommended sponsorship support for 569 eligible children belonging to vulnerable categories, including orphans, children of single parents and specially-abled children.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need to ensure timely assistance to all eligible children and effective implementation of welfare schemes aimed at supporting their education, care, protection and overall well-being.

The DC called for close monitoring of the cases to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive the intended support without delay.

Among others, District Social Welfare Officer Kathua, District Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, District Coordinator, Special Adoption Agency and Member, Muskan Foundation attended the meeting.

DC Kathua reviews Bank performance at DLRC/DCC Meeting, Sets 60% CD Ratio Target

Directs banks to expedite loan disbursal, enhance credit flow and strengthen financial inclusion

Kathua, September 10: Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma today chaired the District Level Review Committee (DLRC)/District Consultative Committee (DCC) meeting for the quarter ending June 2026 to review banking performance and credit flow in the district.

At the outset DC Kathua reviewed the progress under CD Ratio, KCC, PMEGP, NRLM SHGs, PMMY and other credit-linked schemes. Taking note of the present CD Ratio of 52.03%, he directed banks to prepare bank-specific action plans and raise it to at least 60% by the end of the financial year.

Deputy Commissioner Kathua called for speedy disposal and disbursal of sponsored loan cases, enhanced awareness of credit-linked schemes and wider financial inclusion under social security schemes.

The DC directed banks and line departments to work in close coordination and adopt a result-oriented approach to strengthen credit delivery and accelerate economic activity in the district.

LDO RBI stressed strengthening banking facilities at unbanked rural centres and activation of inactive BCs/CSPs, while DDM NABARD highlighted initiatives including AIF, AMI, e-NWR financing and other measures to boost agricultural and allied activities.

The meeting was attended by LDO RBI Amandeep Singh, DDM NABARD Nipun Sharma, SBI LDM Kathua Aman Jasrotia, senior bank officials and representatives of concerned departments.

J&K POLICE KATHUA ARRESTS SECOND ACCUSED IN MAJOR THEFT CASE AT MALHAR; STOLEN ORNAMENTS WORTH LAKHS RECOVERED*


*KATHUA, 22 AUGUST 2026:* Continuing its sustained crackdown on property offences and theft, J&K Police Kathua under the overall supervision of *SSP Kathua Ms. Mohita Sharma, IPS* has achieved another significant breakthrough in a major theft case by arresting the second accused and recovering stolen gold/silver ornaments worth lakhs.

The action has been taken in connection with *FIR No. 11/2026 U/S 305/331(3) BNS of Police Station Malhar*.Earlier, one accused namely *Rustam Sahrab, R/o Village Bhoond, Tehsil Basohli* was arrested by PS Malhar in the instant case. During the course of investigation, stolen gold/silver ornaments worth lakhs were recovered from his possession.

Taking the investigation forward, the police team has now arrested the second accused namely *Akhtar Hussain S/O Abdul Rashid R/O Surjan Chalog, Tehsil Bani, District Kathua* who was found involved in the commission of the offence. His arrest and the subsequent recovery of stolen ornaments worth lakhs constitute a significant achievement in the ongoing investigation.

The investigation has further revealed the involvement of one more accused who is presently at large. Police teams are actively pursuing leads to locate and apprehend the remaining accused and further recoveries are expected.

The successful operation was carried out by a dedicated team of *PS Malhar* headed by *SHO Malhar* under the supervision of *SP Ops Upper Kathua & DySP Ops Malhar*, who have been closely monitoring the investigation and directing the team to ensure that all persons involved in the offence are brought to justice and the stolen property is recovered.Further investigation in the case is in progress and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused.

Kathua Police remains committed to safeguarding the property and security of the public and will continue its sustained efforts against thieves, habitual offenders and other elements involved in property-related crimes.

J&K POLICE KATHUA RECOVERED 100 LOST/STOLEN MOBILE PHONES WORTH RS. 17.01 LAKH; CYBER P/S KATHUA RECOVERED RS. 33.84 LAKH IN CYBER FRAUD CASES.



Kathua, 22May:- Reaffirming its commitment to citizen-centric policing and better public services, District Police Kathua under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua Ms. Mohita Sharma IPS* has recovered 100 lost/stolen mobile phones*, including 03 Apple iPhones, with a total estimated value of Rs. 17,01,000/- (Rupees Seventeen Lakh and One Thousand only) Complaints regarding these missing/stolen mobile phones were lodged at various Police Stations across District Kathua. Acting swiftly, the dedicated and professional team of the IT Section, DPO Kathua traced and recovered the handsets using technical assistance and sustained efforts over the last two months.

The recovered mobile phones were traced from multiple locations including J&K UT, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. Today, after proper verification and completion of legal formalities, the recovered handsets are being handed over to their rightful owners.

Moreover, It is pertinent to mention that District Police Kathua has so far recovered around 600 stolen/lost mobile phones during the last two years, with an approximate total value of Rs. 1,06,30,000/- (Rupees One Crore Six Lakh Thirty Thousand only).

In a parallel achievement, Cyber Police Station Kathua has recorded significant success in tackling online financial frauds. From January 2026 to April 2026, the Cyber PS Kathua has recovered a defrauded amount of Rs. 33,84,692/- in multiple cyber complaints.Since its establishment, *Cyber Police Station Kathua has recovered a total defrauded amount of Rs. 1,77,81,922/-* in various cyber fraud cases through prompt action, freezing of fraudulent transactions, and coordination with banks, payment gateways, and service providers.

General Public of Kathua District has appreciated the efforts of the IT Section and Cyber Police Station for their technical proficiency and public service.

In line with the Annual Activity Calendar, the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Kathua, today successfully conducted Inter-School Zone Level competitions across all 12 zones of the district.
The competitions were held in various disciplines including Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Wrestling, and Chess for Under-14 and Under-17 boys and girls. The event witnessed an overwhelming participation of approximately 3,826 students from different schools, reflecting great courage and sportsmanship among the young athletes.
Furthermore, under the banner of the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, the department also organized Chess and Cycling events at different zones. Around 297 students actively participated in these activities, spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Participants also took a solemn pledge to support the Nasha Mukt initiative.
The events were conducted successfully with the cooperation of field staff, officials, and participating schools.
