In line with the Annual Activity Calendar, the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Kathua, today successfully conducted Inter-School Zone Level competitions across all 12 zones of the district.
The competitions were held in various disciplines including Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Wrestling, and Chess for Under-14 and Under-17 boys and girls. The event witnessed an overwhelming participation of approximately 3,826 students from different schools, reflecting great courage and sportsmanship among the young athletes.
Furthermore, under the banner of the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, the department also organized Chess and Cycling events at different zones. Around 297 students actively participated in these activities, spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Participants also took a solemn pledge to support the Nasha Mukt initiative.
The events were conducted successfully with the cooperation of field staff, officials, and participating schools.

DC Kathua reviews functioning of Kisan Khidmat Ghar, Stresses awareness outreach in Peripheral areas

Kathua, May 05: Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma today chaired a meeting of Kisan Khidmat Ghar (KKG) to review the delivery of their mandated services and assess their role in facilitating farmer-centric initiatives across the district.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner took a comprehensive review of the functioning of the Kisan Khidmat Centres, with emphasis on ensuring timely and efficient delivery of services to the farming community. He stressed the need for strengthening the outreach of KKGs so that farmers in remote and peripheral areas are adequately informed and benefitted from the available schemes and services.

The DC directed the concerned officers and KKG representatives to actively spread awareness in their respective peripheral areas regarding government welfare schemes, agricultural support services, crop advisory, soil testing, seed and fertilizer availability, crop insurance, PM-KISAN benefits and other farmer welfare programmes.

He underscored the importance of Kisan Khidmat Ghar as a vital link between the administration and the farming community and called for a proactive approach in addressing the issues faced by farmers at the grassroots level.

Rajesh Sharma emphasized that the KKGs must function as accessible and reliable support centres for the farmers and should ensure prompt redressal of grievances besides guiding them on modern agricultural practices and government interventions aimed at enhancing farm productivity and income.

He also asked KKG operators to maintain close coordination with the Agriculture, Horticulture and allied departments to ensure seamless service delivery and effective implementation of various agricultural development programmes in the district.

The meeting was attended by CPO Ranjeet Thakur, CAO Jatinder Khajuria, SDAOs, representatives of Kisan Khidmat Centres and other officials from Agriculture and allied departments.

DC Kathua chairs District Capex Plan meeting for current fiscal year

Officers asked to align Capex proposals with public needs and elected representatives’ priorities

Kathua, May 04: Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma today chaired a meeting of district officers to review and finalize the District Capex Plan for the current fiscal year at the DC Office Complex.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed all sectoral officers to ensure that only feasible and need-based works are incorporated in the Capex Plan so that projects can be executed efficiently and within the prescribed timelines. He emphasized that unrealistic or non-viable proposals should be avoided and priority must be given to works with tangible public utility and long-term impact.

DC Kathua Rajesh Sharma stressed the importance of taking the elected MLAs on board while framing the plan so that developmental priorities of the people are adequately reflected and aligned with public expectations. He asked the officers to maintain close coordination with public representatives to ensure transparency and better planning outcomes.

He further instructed the departments to identify and remove bottlenecks hampering execution of developmental works, including land issues, technical clearances and administrative delays, so that implementation remains smooth and uninterrupted.

The Deputy Commissioner laid special emphasis on early submission of departmental proposals for final approval, stating that timely planning is crucial for effective utilization of funds and prompt commencement of developmental works during the financial year.

He called upon all departments to work in a coordinated manner and ensure that the Capex Plan serves as a practical roadmap for inclusive and sustainable development across the district.

The programme featured a rally which was formally flagged off by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer Basohli (SDPO Basohli) accompanied by SHO PS Basohli & IC PCP Mahanpur. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of Students of Govt Higher Secondary School Mahanpur & Adharsh Vidya Niketen, members of civil society, Sarpanch Mahanpur etc

Participants raised awareness slogans *"Say No to Drugs & Yes to Life"* and carried placards highlighting the harmful effects of drug abuse, emphasizing the collective responsibility of society in eradicating the menace. The rally aimed to sensitize the public, especially the youth, about the importance of leading a drug-free life.

The training module, meticulously designed by Security Headquarters (SHQ), J&K, covers key aspects of VIP security including access control, threat perception, anti-sabotage checks, PSOs duties, escort responsibilities, rescue planning, convoy movement, crowd management, and emergency response strategies.

ACB Arrests junior #assistant in #Kathua for taking Bribe Anti Corruption Bureau reportedly arre_sted a public servant in Kathua in a bribery case. ACB registered FIR No 03/2026 under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 against Des Raj junior assistant posted in Social Welfare Department Billawar District Kathua for demanding and accepting illegal gratification. The accused reportedly demanded Rs 10000 from a complainant for releasing financial assistance under State Marriage Assistance Scheme for his daughter whose marriage is scheduled on Apr 16. After negotiation the accused agreed to take Rs 5000. The complainant had already paid Rs 1500 earlier and later the accused demanded Rs 3000 more for releasing Rs 50000 assistance. The complainant refused to pay further bribe and approached ACB for legal action. On receiving the complaint ACB conducted verification which confirmed the demand and registered the case. During investigation a trap team was formed and a successful trap was laid. The accused was caught red handed while demanding and accepting bribe in presence of independent witnesses. He was arrested on the spot and bribe money was recovered from his possession. A search operation is also being conducted at his residence in Kishanpur Billawar in presence of a magistrate. Further investigation is underway.
