Empaths don’t have shiny things. They may invest in themselves but not in things.

Material things have less value than the sense of peace that comes from not trading your soul to buy them.

Experiences win every time. Going somewhere new. Trying a new activity. Learning a new idea or perspective you didn’t have before.

This is what we enjoy.

There is a BUT. There is a caveat. We like shiny people who compliment what we like. BUT we know that shiny people do not like us.
Therein lies the tension of opposites. What do we do about it?

Why do we create; take pictures of ourselves and tell our stories?

Maybe it’s an outlet to express what we can’t say, or what no one is ready to hear.

So, I make these videos getting closer to telling my story of abuse and what kept me silent for a lifetime.

Will telling it free me of something that I can’t name?

I wish I had the answer to that.

St John’s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, Virginia is host to candlelight concerts which I photographed.

The warm glow creates a feeling of old fashioned cozy comfort. Like an invisible blanket that covers you in your seat.
