Lately we’ve been seeing a wave of posts, blogs, and comment threads trying to demonize Indigenous peoples in B.C. for asserting sovereignty over lands that were never ceded, never surrendered, and never part of a treaty. These territories are still 100% Indigenous; legally, historically, and morally.
So why the sudden panic?
Why the fear-mongering about “losing your home title”?
Why the coordinated outrage about treaty negotiations?
Here’s the part people aren’t saying out loud:
Indigenous nations are the stewards of some of the most valuable lands and waters in British Columbia.
Forests, rivers, minerals, LNG corridors, tanker routes, fisheries. Massive wealth sits on Indigenous territories. And certain political and corporate interests want access to those resources at any cost.
When Indigenous leaders say no to unsafe pipelines, tanker expansion, destructive mining, or foreign-owned megaprojects, they get hit with:
• anonymous misinformation campaigns
• fear about homeowners losing land
• personal attacks and slander
• coordinated pressure from politicians who have already signaled they want more extraction in areas that Indigenous nations clearly said no to
This is not accidental.
It’s strategic.
And it benefits a lot of people who are not British Columbians, including foreign governments and multinational corporations pushing dangerous projects in sensitive ecosystems.
Meanwhile, global far-right networks (including the IDU chaired by Stephen Harper) use these same wedge tactics around the world: stoking fears, creating fake outrage, pushing division, and helping elect governments that will prioritize resource extraction over human rights. We’ve seen this play out with Trump, Orbán, Netanyahu, and almost with Pierre Poilievre.
B.C. is not immune.
The pattern is identical.
And through all of this, Indigenous leaders continue to speak with compassion, clarity, and respect for future generations, even while facing racism, harassment, and constant attempts to delegitimize them.
Supporting Indigenous sovereignty isn’t “radical.”
It’s the most honest, responsible, and Canadian thing we can do.
The treaties were made with the Crown, and Indigenous Peoples honoured those agreements in good faith. Their connection to the Crown is often the last thread protecting those rights. If not for those treaties, many of us would be saying the monarchy should be gone tomorrow. But Indigenous nations still hold those treaty relationships as sacred and that alone is worth respecting.
At the end of the day, this is not just a debate about politics or land use.
It’s a struggle between colonialism and dignity.
Between extraction and stewardship.
Between misinformation and truth.
And I’m choosing to stand with Indigenous sovereignty openly and without hesitation.
Because they welcomed us here.
And the least we can do is stand with them now.

www.gofundme.com/f/help-princess-get-the-veterinar…
I am humbly reaching out to ask for support during this difficult time. My beloved dog, Princess, has developed a painful lump on her back that requires urgent veterinary care. Unfortunately, I’ve stretched myself thin financially to care for my animals, and I am currently maxed out on my line of credit. Despite my best efforts, I’m unable to afford the vet costs to give her the help she needs.
Princess is not just a pet; she is a cherished member of my family. The funds raised will go directly to Salt Spring Veterinary Services to cover her examination, diagnostics, and any necessary treatment. If there is any surplus, it will be used to purchase food and flea medication to keep her and my other animals healthy.
It’s not easy for me to ask for help, but I’m doing this for Princess, who brings so much love and joy into my life. Your support, no matter how small, would mean the world to us and make an incredible difference in her life. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this campaign with others would be a tremendous help.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness and generosity.

Wow, what a wild ride it has been these past three years for all of us! For every challenge I come up on, I know in my heart it is also an opportunity for growth, healing and grace. This is what keeps on getting me through to the other side of it with the help of my two incredible children, sister, mom, family, friends and greater community. As I make it through the hardest moments I repeatedly find myself feeling deeply blessed by all of you and especially feeling so grateful to still be here having more time with my girls who have been navigating this journey with me in incredible bravery and strength.
"To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, but to live gratitude is to touch heaven." J.Gaertner
This past year my kidney function (eGFR) dropped down to a low of 12 (normal is 90 to 120) due to a large mass creating pressure resulting in requiring a bilateral nephrostomy (tubes in my kidneys) to relieve the pressure. The kidney function mildly improved for a short time but has stayed at 14 for the last months requiring me to go through the steps in the Kidney Care Clinic to prepare for dialysis 3x/week in Victoria if the situation turn into a critical emergency. This would be a palliative end stage treatment as I do not qualify for a transplant with Stage 4 cancer. But I am happy to share that miraculously when I ended up in emergency with a blood clot just over a month ago my kidney function level increased to 21, the highest it has been in a year! So at this point, I am going to take this as a win and celebrate that I can hold off on dialysis and hoping the next blood tests also reflect this improvement.
I had to stop most of my treatments due to the state of my kidneys and have been finding daily frequent meditation is my biggest medicine to help me with my symptoms and keeping my heart and mind in good spirits. For this I feel very thankful to feel this grace in my life as I know we all have our own struggles and I wish that everyone can feel increasing moments of connection in greater love and grace.
I can have frequent difficulty with keeping food down due to various complications and I am hoping to raise some funds to try out a homeopathic cancer specialist to help with my symptoms since it is something that I can take in as treatment. I am deeply grateful to receive any help with this and towards the on going costs of daily living, raising children and taking care of animals as it has most definitely been a challenge not being able to work these past 3 years but certainly an opportunity to get creative.
I am so thankful to still be here witnessing the miracles of life. Thank you for all the love, prayers and support. Together we create this miracle that is life.

I saw glimpses of you in the people who met you but I only met you in my dreams. I hope the day will come where you will come find me and all this massive gap will vanish after our first laughter. All these years of grief of sadness could have been filled with songs and magic. I hope you are ok Grace.

Many summers in a row I have played sitar down in the Causeway in Victoria but not since the pandemic. Now the Harbour Authorities are expecting buskers to buy insurance at same time as paying for permit which brings the total in the $500 range which I find a bit much for this time of year I do not know what I will do. If I don’t pay I will lose my spot and seniority. Maybe I should just give up.

If something were to happen to me before my biological daughter finds me, in such an instance, my biggest regret would be that I would not have lived long enough to have the chance to hold her and make up for all the time that we have spent apart. I don't know how many more years, months, or days it will take, but one day, God willing (I say "God willing" as an agnostic), we will be united and hopefully inseparable, and this for a few decades, ideally. So mote it be. I love you, Grace.

I have been agnostically praying to Saint Frère André a lot in the past year asking for his help in healing my friend Kimberly who is hopefully going to live many more decades and become 100% cancer free.
Anyone who is reading this is welcome to send some healing energy her way.
