The Wanderlust Way

Welcome, friends! I’m Claire, and this is The Wanderlust Way—a channel devoted to uncovering the fascinating stories hidden within the places I explore. Living in the North of England, most of my adventures take me across Britain, with the occasional overseas journey sprinkled in.

From historical wonders and ghostly tales to folklore, literature, and the delightfully strange, I love bringing these stories to life and sharing them with you. Along the way, I also offer travel tips to help you plan your own adventures.

Fun fact: I started this channel to prove to my kids that if you put your mind to something, you can achieve anything. It’s been an amazing journey, and I couldn’t have done it without you. Your likes, comments, shares, and subscriptions mean the world to me. Thank you for being part of The Wanderlust Way family! 💕

Enough waffle, let’s wander —because every adventure begins with a story. 🧭

The Wanderlust Way

There's something about Sherwood…

Thank you to everyone who joined me on the first Wander of 2026 👣

This one was a little different — slower, more reflective, very much a walk-and-talk. Partly because I wanted to try something new, but mostly because this time of year always feels like it asks us to slow down and notice what’s around us.

Sherwood Forest is full of atmosphere, even on a cold winter's day. Ancient, tangled, quietly watching. I wasn't here to talk about the paranormal… but I'd be lying if I said there weren't a few moments that made me pause. I think I might have to return some day and do a bit of digging into the spookier side of this place!

As usual, here are some 'behind the scenes' pics including Missy and me by the Major Oak — Sherwood's most iconic tree, often linked into Robin Hood folklore, and estimated to be around a thousand years old. Legend or not, it's a powerful place to stand.

If you haven't had a chance to watch yet, the wander is up on the channel whenever you're ready.

And I'd be interested to hear if you've tried any of the old ways of predicting the future? You know, tarot, tea leaves, palmistry etc. Are you a believer, a sceptic, or somewhere in between?

The Wanderlust Way

🔮 It is foretold… 🔮
That in the opening days of 2026,
a wander shall begin beneath the ancient trees of Sherwood Forest.

As winter paths are walked,
we’ll explore how people across history have tried to predict the future —
through fortune telling, prophecy, astrology, dreams, and ancient beliefs
that still linger in the modern world.

No answers promised.
Just stories, history, and the quiet pull of what comes next.

Happy New Year 🎉
Wishing you a healthy, happy and adventure-filled 2026 ✨
At the very last minute, we decided to head to York to see in the new year. A couple of haunted pubs, a beer in Valhalla, some excellent Thai food… and then joining the huge crowds gathered outside York Minster as the year turned.
The atmosphere was incredible. There’s something quietly powerful about standing in front of a building that’s witnessed around 900 other New Years before this one.
A moment to be thankful for the last twelve months, and to think of those we loved and lost in 2025. None of us know what the next year will bring, but I hope — for all of us — that it’s a peaceful one.
And thank you to everyone who’s come along for the YouTube journey this year. I’ve met so many like-minded souls through it — people I’d probably never have crossed paths with otherwise — and that’s something I’ll never take for granted. 🖤

Behind the Scenes: Twixmas Edition 🎄📺🍫

Usually I’d have prepared 5 insightful 'behind-the-scenes' shots to share from the latest video....https://youtu.be/HueTndm2inc

But it’s the sleepy in-between of Christmas and New Year, and the most exciting thing I can offer is this — a table strewn with chocolates and a TV remote that hasn’t moved in 3 days. Peak productivity, right?

In all seriousness, I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who’s watched this final video of the year — and honestly, thank you for all the support throughout 2025. This little corner of the internet has grown in a way I never expected, and that’s 100% down to you lot turning up, watching, commenting, sharing, and just being brilliant.

I’ve met some genuinely lovely people through this channel and that’s something I don’t take for granted.
So while this was the last upload of 2025, rest assured… I’m already plotting epic adventures for 2026. It’d be great to have you along for the ride 🙏

🎥 Now, back to the video — which of the stories did you remember making headlines, and which ones were a total surprise?

Still in that cosy Christmas mood… but feeling like you’re missing a good ghost story?
You’re in luck 👻✨

This Christmas, I created a special mini-series of three classic M.R. James ghost stories, retold in a gentle audiobook style with candlelit ambience — perfect for listening while pottering around the house, washing those leftover pots, tidying up the wrapping-paper chaos, or finally settling down with a quiet cuppa.

If you’d like to dive into something atmospheric (but not too demanding!) over the next couple of days, here’s the full playlist:

Right then… Christmas. 🎄
Just popping on to wish each and every one of you a really lovely Christmas, whatever the next few days look like for you.

For some of us, this time of year is full of good food, familiar faces and cosy moments — but for others, it can also be a time when we find ourselves thinking about people we’ve lost, or things that haven’t quite gone to plan.
Everyone’s Christmas is different, and that’s okay.

So I wanted to say that however you’re spending it — busy, peaceful, surrounded by people or alone — I hope you’re able to enjoy it in your own way 🙏

I also want to say a huge thank you to everyone who’s supported the channel over the last year.

Watching it grow has been genuinely lovely, and I’m so grateful for every view, comment, share, recommendation, donation and membership. It really does mean the world, and I can’t wait to bring you lots more stories in 2026.

I’m going to try and switch off now for a couple of days (no promises 😅), but I’ll defo be back on Sunday with a brand new video.

Ending this with a photo of me and Badger Father Christmas… because honestly, why not 🦡🎅

Merry Christmas, love Claire x

A Little Christmas Gift From Me to You…🎁

Good morning everyone — I hope you’re easing into Christmas week gently, with plenty of cosy moments ahead.

Yesterday’s abbey ghost video was such a special one to make, and I mentioned at the end that I had a little festive treat planned… so here it is.

Tonight at 7pm, the first of three classic M.R. James ghost stories is going live on the channel.
These are cosy audiobook-style retellings, with candlelight, crackling ambience, and that old-fashioned winter storytelling feel.

They’ll arrive one by one, each night:

🕯️ Mon 22nd — Canon Alberic’s Scrapbook
🕯️ Tues 23rd — The Mezzotint
🕯️ Wed 24th — Oh, Whistle, and I’ll Come to You, My Lad

Just something gentle for you to listen to while you’re wrapping presents, driving home for Christmas, unwinding, or settling in with a warm drink over the next few nights.

Thank you again for all your support this year — it means the world.
Hope you enjoy the stories. 💛

Blue skies above… but deep winter clings sharply here 🥶

A December escape from Christmas shopping hell led us into the bitter cold of the abbey ruins. Standing there, it was impossible not to think of the monks who once endured winter here — stone, wind, and vigil instead of warmth and comfort.

A few behind-the-scenes moments from filming below. Thanks to Adi for helping with this one!

Thank you also to everyone who joined the premiere — and to those who’ve watched since. I know how busy this time of year can be, and I really appreciate you making space for it.
The video is now live on the channel to watch anytime, at your leisure, throughout the festive season.

As a little Christmas treat, I’ve also recorded a short run of winter ghost stories in audiobook style — atmospheric retellings of classic M.R. James tales, perfect for quiet evenings or Christmas Eve listening:

🎧 M.R. James – Winter Ghost Stories
• Mon 22nd – Canon Alberic’s Scrapbook
• Tues 23rd – The Mezzotint
• Wed 24th (Christmas Eve) – Whistle and I’ll Come to You, My Lad

Wishing you all a very happy Christmas.
And if something stirs in the stillness on Christmas Eve night… perhaps, just let it pass. 🕯️

The Wanderlust Way

You are invited on one final wander before Christmas...
Where monks kept vigil and ancient echoes remain....

Long before tinsel and TV specials, Christmas was a midwinter vigil 🕯️a harsh and holy season of darkness, remembrance, and quiet watchfulness. Candles were kept burning through the longest nights, prayers were whispered in stone cloisters, and it was believed that on Christmas Eve the veil thinned, allowing the dead to draw close.

This Sunday, I’m taking you on a storytelling wander through one of Britain’s ancient monastic ruins, exploring UK ghost stories, legends, phantom choirs, and Christmas folklore — from monks who wrote of spirits, to voices said to still rise in the cold air at midwinter.

🕯️ Christmas Hauntings – Ghost Stories & Legends of Britain’s Ancient Abbeys
🎥 Premieres Sunday 21st December at 10am GMT
Video link - https://youtu.be/JST1fMBRk7c

This is my last premiere before Christmas, and I’d love to share it with you — whether you join live or watch later with the lights turned low and something warm to drink.

Hope to see some of you there 🖤🕯️
