- Joe Yabuki's Mountain Metaphor Analysis -
• It was kind of symbolic storytelling •

Note: I never do these types of posts (analysis)
So it's my first time writing any analysis 🐧.
As no one commented in my previous post so i have to do it now.

----------------------------------------------------------
Joe was discussing with danpie.
He explained through a flashback that In his past he always thought about what is beyond those mountains. So he ran away from the orphanage like he always did, a caretaker tried to stop him but joe threw a frog at his face...
He always thought there would be a magnificent place once he climbed over it.
He climbed the mountain to the top of it and found nothing... He says: "how many times I cross the mountains I still can't find the magnificent place".
A random old gramps tells him to go down with him. But he rejected it but he didn't mean the opposite of what is advised to him but rather, he just quietly walks away from him but still chooses his own path (north side). shows the kinds of defiance he has.
• If you try to stop joe, he will resist or fight.
• If you advise him to take the easy path, he will ignore it and choose his own way.

After explaining all this to danpie, Danpie says he sees boxing as a pathway for freedom/glory.
Both joe and danpei see the magnificent place differently, for Joe it represents spiritual freedom found through struggle, while for Danpei, it represents the glory a boxer earns at the top.

(Extra: They should have added this, when Danpei says to Joe, "you really did great" Joe was already gone. Rather than rushing to him like the others, Danpei stands still, quietly realizing what kind of “magnificent place” Joe meant.)

• Climb = spiritual freedom path
• North = choosing his own path even against advice or hardship.
In the 46th EP that scene was again shown that mountain flashback and joe eating rice balls symbolizes finding small satisfaction and contentment amid struggle, which parallels the satisfaction he feels facing against jose. He also finds a shelter in that scene there... And explaining even in the strong winds he never gives up, still goes north. Says: He will always make it anyhow. Never go on an easy path. And in the current time danpie was saying joe to give up.. and joe rejected that. (Like that flashback old gramps suggesting him to give up).

- Another scene was with Rikiishi -
Joe was dreaming in the ring that rikiishi is in the same mountain.
Imagining that ring/prison arc his one of the peak of mountain. They showed the same guys who were in prison.
But this time rikiishi says not to use rocks.
Joe says that I'll do anything to beat you..
And so he didn't cheat this time and made rikiishi smile. Shows how Joe developed from ego to pride. But he remains the same guy.
He ran towards him and saw an image of rikiishi>carlos>jose one by one.
This shows the path of climbing he was doing.
His journey.
And jose was stated as a top of the mountain.

And in another scene was in that, in the same dream - joe vs rikiishi fight, ground was falling apart. but they still fought..
And in the current time.. he was nearly blinded at that time.
Even before dying he said "I'll go north again".
But still he didn't give up. Even if he knows he is going to die like in his dream everything was going to be destroyed.
His eyes showing flames symbolize undying fighting spirit.

Magnificent place serves as a metaphor for joe’s death (spiritual freedom)
Shows the culmination of his journey.
