We’re incredibly fortunate to live in a time where health and wellness are literally at our fingertips. With today’s technology, we can learn, research, shop for the right products, follow expert-led workout videos, and even hire a personal trainer—all from our phones.
But with a world overflowing with information, programs, and opinions… how do you know what’s truly the best choice?
~ let’s talk Certified Personal Trainers 💥
What makes a great trainer—and what should you look for when choosing a CPT?
Word of mouth from other elite athletes is always a plus. And if you’re lucky enough to train where top talent gathers—like I was, with the Mecca as my second home—having access to high-level trainers you can approach directly is a game-changer.
When you’re evaluating a potential coach, keep this checklist in mind:
Who have they trained? Their roster says a lot about their skill set and reputation.
How much experience do they bring? Years under the bar—and with clients—matter.
Do they understand your needs? Whether it’s bodybuilding, physique, strength, conditioning, or rehab, make sure they have real expertise in your goals.
What does their schedule look like? Consistency is key; make sure your availability aligns.
What’s their training and motivational style? You want someone whose energy pushes you, not someone you simply tolerate.
A great trainer doesn’t just count reps—they elevate your mindset, sharpen your technique, and help you unlock the version of yourself you’re working toward.
Of course to most of us “Muscle Heads” and elite Pro’s the Legend, Charles Glass, is the first to speak of AND rightfully so.
Another favourite Elite Trainer of mine is TR (“The Rejuvenator”) Goodman Jr.
Owner-founder of Pro Camp Sports who has earned the title as the nations’ leader in sports conditioning fitness for Professional athletes including Fitness/Bodybuilding, NHL, NFL, NBA, Tennis .. the list goes on. TR has also been the trainer of choice for a number of Hollywood Celebrities over the years (loved bumping into TR and, the late, James Caan early in the morning at the MECCA in the day. Always brought a smile to my face).
TR started “The ProFormLong Society” which is a private membership dedicated to showing people how to Live Stronger, Live Longer and Live Pain-Free.
I was overjoyed to bump into my old friend TR while training at Gold’s Venice and great to see he’s still helping people live longer, stronger and pain-free.
TR Goodman Jr truly is one of America’s Great Trainers 🎉

"No hiding from Self-Discipline!"
Personal growth and achieving goals require confronting challenges and resisting temptations, rather than avoiding them. True progress comes from actively practicing self-control and making conscious choices to stay on track, even when it's difficult. 🌟

ALL or NOTHING

The all-or-nothing mindset can be a powerful driver for success, but it can also lead to burnout, guilt, and frustration when life happens.
If you expect perfection—perfect workouts, perfect meals, perfect execution—you will eventually feel like you are failing when things do not go as planned. That feeling influences the next choice, and before you know it, you are either all in or completely out.
What if you took that mindset and used it strategically?
Instead of trying to be locked in one hundred percent of the time, structure your approach so you can sustain it.
✔️ Set focused phases where you push harder and dial in your habits.
✔️ Build in flexibility to practice the skill of being less rigid, especially when life gets in the way.
✔️ Measure progress through consistency rather than chasing an impossible standard of perfection.
You do not need to be perfect every day to reach your goals, but you do need to be consistent over time.

Happy Birthday to the Maple Leaf .. 🥳

The Canadian Flag that is!

Yes, I said today is the 60th. celebration of the Canuck flag. 🎉

Before 1965 The flags of British North America used in colonial Canada showcased ties to the British Empire. Both before and after Confederation in 1867, Canada used the United Kingdom’s Royal Union Flag, commonly known as the Union Jack.

In 1965, the Maple Leaf (designed by George Stanley) was made official by a proclamation from Queen Elizabeth II on January 28, 1965 which was critical to defining Canada as a unified, independent country.

With that said, what better time to introduce “Captain Canuck” on the birthday of the Maple Leaf 🎉

Thanks to artist R.J. for the most amazing illustration and my new favourite of all time! 🇨🇦
