I ran the numbers bc I was curious, and it turns out Lord of Mysteries Season 1 actually adapts FEWER WORDS PER EPISODE MINUTE than Re:Zero Season 3.

This is both when using Re:Zero’s WN word count and its LN word count. Using the WN numbers, Re:Zero S3 adapts about 11% more words per minute, and using the LN numbers, it still adapts about 1.4% more.

If you include the chibi shorts for both series, plus LOTM’s Old Neil mysticism class shorts, the gap increases even more: Re:Zero S3 ends up adapting roughly 15% more words per minute for the WN count and around 5% more for the LN count.

And that’s before considering that some Re:Zero S3 episodes include recap segments, which means its effective words per minute rate is actually even higher. So the idea that LOTM having 15 episodes (13 main episodes ranging from 34 to 40 minutes, plus two 30-minute specials) is some kind of extreme adaptation crunch doesn’t really hold up.

Also, unlike Re:Zero, Lord of the Mysteries doesn’t have a more polished light novel version, which means it contains a lot more fluff. Realistically, if it were rewritten as a light novel, the overall word count, especially for Volume 1, which is known for being very slice of life, would likely be much lower.
