Why I’m so devoted to speaking to men and boys these days is because of cases like Ochanya’s.
Imagine what a father and his son did to a girl who was only staying with them and they walked away from it.
Then there’s another set of men the ones God will punish severely. The ones who will hear a story like Ochanya’s and ask, “What was she wearing?” Nna, Chukwu ga akpọ gị oku. (God will call you to judgement.)
I have daughters, and when I think of what that girl went through for five whole years in the hands of those men, I feel pain. Real pain. So picture the pain a woman feels toward such wickedness.
Let me repeat this: Before you do something terrible to another man’s daughter, imagine it being done to your own child. Just picture it. But sadly, some men would still do it to their own daughters and we already have such cases happening.
Speaking up about this is personal to me. Because it touches everything I stand for. Raise men well, and you raise a better society.
Anyone who defiles an underaged girl does not deserve prayers they deserve jail. If our system wasn’t weak, many of the people walking free today would be behind bars.
There are too many silent Ochanya cases happening right now. And what we need is simple: Protect our girls.
NB: All of you who see a young girl whether offline or on social media and start saying “Na me go marry this girl,” especially when it comes to my daughters don’t try it again. This is an open warning because that is how it always starts.
