There is a thin line between support and dependency, And we’re slowly crossing it.
Support is meant to empower citizens. Dependency teaches them to wait for the next scheme. In my short video, I talk about how citizenship is quietly being redefined from responsibility and participation to expectation and reliance. When welfare turns into habitual freebies, the impact goes beyond economics: • Citizens stop demanding jobs, systems, and accountability.
•Governments replace long-term solutions with short-term relief.
•Public responsibility shifts from individuals to announcements.
The biggest cost of freebies isn’t always financial. It’s the erosion of initiative, civic duty, and self-reliance. This isn’t about rejecting support. It’s about questioning whether we are empowering citizens or training them to wait ?

A factory in Italy was shut down after poisoning 3.5 lakh people because of the chemicals it produced : PFAS .
PFAS chemicals were linked to one of Europe’s worst environmental scandals.
PFAS are called “forever chemicals” because they contaminate soil and groundwater and accumulate in the human body. They don’t break down .
They stay in soil. They stay in water. They stay in human bodies.
European courts stepped in. The plant was closed. Public health came first.
The story didn’t end there. The same machinery, patents, and technology were later moved to Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, a coastal region where livelihoods, ecosystems, and water sources are deeply interconnected.
India still has no specific PFAS regulations.
Meanwhile, we celebrate “clean cities” rankings. And yet, even places like Indore have raised concerns around water contamination.
Which brings us to the questions we avoid asking:If a technology is considered too dangerous for Europe, why is it acceptable for India?
Do environmental and public health standards change with geography? And most importantly , does human life carry different value depending on where you live? Because governance is not just about economic growth - it’s about whether human life is valued before a crisis forces action.
