"Every month, I’m in the hospital. My voice disappears. My chest hurts... and I know it’s because of this place."

Joyce is one of so many waste pickers who work scouring mountains of trash created by corporations, while breathing its toxic fumes.

For all the plastic lobby's rhetoric, only 9% of all plastic ever produced has been recycled.

The rest? Buried, burned, or dumped, poisoning communities just like Joyce's.

For nearly three years, Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, has been under illegal occupation by the Russian military, who use it not for electricity, but for nuclear blackmail - of the country and wider continent.

The plant is not properly maintained, with the occupiers hiding the real status and activities of the plant from the world. Everything that led to the 1986 Chornobyl catastrophe is happening again in 2024.

The most vulnerable in this situation are the residents of Zaporizhzhia and Dnipro regions, who live literally on the verge of a new potential nuclear incident.

Follow Greenpeace nuclear experts and activists as they travel to the Dnipro region, 20km from the war's front lines, conducting radiation training for local communities, supporting solar power plant installations and campaign for sanctions against the Russian state nuclear agency Rosatom and its business partnerships with European companies.
