A rare sight from March 1954 đźš‚

Q1 No. 33015 powers a freight train through Kent—a rugged wartime-designed locomotive still hard at work in peacetime. Built for efficiency and strength, these no-frills engines quietly kept Britain moving in the post-war years.

Not glamorous… but absolutely essential.

A transatlantic journey for a legend 🚂🇺🇸

LNER Class A4 No. 60008 Dwight D. Eisenhower received a final overhaul at Doncaster Works before being shipped to the United States in 1964.

Chosen for preservation during the end of steam, the locomotive was officially handed over by Richard Beeching and sent to the National Railroad Museum, where it still stands today as a symbol of British engineering.

A forgotten corner of Britain’s railway past 🚂

At Warrington Bank Quay Low Level railway station, Ivatt Class 2MT No. 41288 works a push-pull service in the early 1960s—one of the last passenger trains on a once-important route linking Liverpool and Manchester.

Passenger services had dwindled to just a handful before closure in 1962, bringing an end to this hidden low-level station beneath the busy main line.

The RCTS “East Midlander” tour saw mighty Stanier Pacific LMS Coronation Class No. 46251 City of Nottingham haul the train south from Nottingham, before handing over to SR West Country Class No. 34038 Lynton at Didcot.

Captured here at Salisbury railway station, No. 34038 leads the tour through the heart of Southern steam territory—just a few years before it would all disappear.

A fleeting moment from the final years of British steam.
