👏 LED Strip Width 101: Don't Let Your IP67 Installation Fail! 🔦
Ever specified an LED strip for a project, only to find it doesn't fit the aluminum profile during installation? The culprit is often overlooking the final width of a waterproof strip.
Here’s a quick technical breakdown to prevent that:
➡️ Standard IP20 Strip: Typically, the PCB itself has a width of 8mm.
➡️ IP67 with Silicone Tube: The silicone tube adds approximately +2mm. So, the tube strip width becomes ~10mm.
➡️ The Critical Part (End Caps): The silicone end caps, essential for a complete IP67 seal, add another +2mm at each termination point. This means the total width at the ends can be ~12mm.
If your aluminum channel is designed for a 10mm strip, that extra 2mm at the ends will cause a frustrating installation failure.
💡 Our Pro Tip & Solution:
If width is a critical constraint, ask us about our "End Cap Alternative" method. We can:
Remove the plastic end caps; Seal the ends with high-grade silicone glue; Finish with a heat shrink tube for a robust, waterproof seal.
This method maintains the full IP67 waterproof rating but reduces the final width back down to that of the silicone tube alone (~10mm), ensuring a perfect fit into tighter aluminum profile channels.
Always remember to factor in the final assembled width for a seamless project rollout!
