About the Artist
I look beyond the physical form of my subjects to express my own perceptions of what I am seeing. A single line conveys emotion and meaning, and when applying color, I allow each hue to subliminally suggest a form of expression. In selecting my subjects, I look for their hidden beauty, which I find in all beings.
Hollye Davidson is continually involved in a compassionate search for expansive joy that brings a stirring post-contemporary vision of the empathetic power of the canvas to her paintings and drawings.
Hollye Davidson has a gift for penetrating under the skin. She weds an economy of line with an exuberant use of color to broadcast a rapturous vision of humanity. Her portraits are at once enigmatically nuanced and strikingly intimate. The more one sees people as the artist does, the more complicated and interesting they seem to become. Her subtle insinuation of flesh appears crafted from layers of colored air. The forms and features of her figures dramatically rendered as if the artist's hands never rose from the canvas while capturing the essence of her subjects. Often in her paintings raw canvas shows through, as though the artist has abstracted the nervousness and irritation of daily life, content instead to reveal the fiery spirit that animates us all. In doing so, Davidson offers a soulful look at others that borders on epiphany. - Jane Hart, Independent Curator

Delicate and fluid lines, form and carefully chosen color are strong components of Hollye's work but they only begin to capture the essence of her art. What comes out most strongly is the emotions of her subjects. From playful to proud, thoughtful to joyful, the range of emotions truly tells the story.
