MAJOR Canadian Citizenship Update!
Processing times for Proof of Canadian Citizenship applications have jumped to 33 months in September 2026 β bringing the estimated wait close to 3 years.
π IRCC Processing Time:
β’ January 2026: 10 months
β’ May 2026: 12 months
β’ July 2026: 19 months
β’ August 2026: 25 months
β’ September 2026: 33 months π¨
The application queue has also grown to approximately 136,000 people.
One major factor behind the increase is Bill C-3, which expanded citizenship-by-descent eligibility in December 2025 and resulted in a significant increase in applications.
β‘ Can you get faster processing?
Urgent processing may be available for eligible applicants facing certain circumstances, including:
π Education
πΌ Employment
βοΈ Urgent travel
πΆ Moving a minor child to Canada
π₯ Certain serious family circumstances
π Statelessness
β οΈ Urgent processing is not guaranteed and applicants must meet IRCC's criteria.
If you believe you may be a Canadian citizen by descent, don't delay understanding your eligibility and documentation requirements.

Canada has extended the grace period for certain Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) work permit applications submitted through concurrent processing.
As of August 21, 2026, eligible applicants now have 90 days instead of 60 days to provide proof of a positive or neutral LMIA after submitting their in-Canada work permit application.
In this video, we explain:
What concurrent processing means
Who may qualify
The new 90-day timeframe
How LMIA approval affects the work permit application
How maintained status can help eligible workers continue working
Key requirements for concurrent processing
π Important: This update applies to specific TFWP situations and does not mean every work permit applicant gets an automatic 90-day extension.

Canada is fast-tracking certain Proof of Canadian Citizenship applications for eligible individuals who need their citizenship certificate to study in Canada.
With regular proof of citizenship processing times reaching around 25 months, eligible applicants planning to study in Canada may request urgent processing and could, in some cases, receive their citizenship certificate in time for their semester.
To request urgent processing for education, applicants generally need to submit:
π A request for urgent processing
π A letter explaining why urgent processing is required
π Proof of education in Canada, such as a Letter of Acceptance
π Tuition information
π A complete proof of citizenship application
β οΈ Important: Urgent processing is not guaranteed. Each request is reviewed individually by IRCC.
This could be especially important for people who may already be Canadian citizens by descent and are planning to study in Canada. Having proof of Canadian citizenship may also affect tuition rates and remove the need to study as an international student.
Thinking you may be eligible for Canadian citizenship through ancestry? π¨π¦

Canada has introduced new rules that could allow multi-site employers to hire more low-wage temporary foreign workers under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP).
Under the updated rules, employers with fewer than 10 employees at a particular work location may be able to hire 1 low-wage foreign worker per location, or up to 2 workers in certain in-demand sectors such as healthcare, construction, and food production.
In this video, we explain:
πΉ The new low-wage TFWP rules
πΉ How the 10% and 20% workforce caps work
πΉ The new calculation for individual work locations
πΉ Who may benefit from these changes
πΉ LMIA requirements for foreign workers
πΉ Additional employer requirements
πΉ Rural workforce cap changes
πΉ What this means for employers and foreign workers in Canada
π Important: Immigration rules can change. Always verify your eligibility and current requirements through official Canadian government sources or consult a qualified immigration professional.
