Find out from James what it is, how it happens, and learn about the bright future of hunting in New Zealand. This is an incredible podcast, timed specifically to coincide with the Environment Select Committee taking comments on the two HOSI applications

#PROOF
The most highly regulated species in the world is the crocodilian family including alligators.
Alligators have been brought back from being endangered to thriving because of value, use, AND hunting.
From the bayous of Louisiana to Rodeo Drive in Hollywood, alligator skins are a sustainably utilized commodity.
Imagine the same thing happened with rhinos or elephants?

This is an absolute tragedy and has nothing to do with hunting or a need for an increase in hunting, but it does provide an opportunity to talk about Black Bears in California.
Currently California has on the street for public comment the newly developed Black Bear Management Plan for the State of California. It’s a good plan, full of good science tied to sustainable black bear management. Public comment is due June 22nd.
California’s Black Bear population is likeliest the healthiest in the lower 48 behind Alaska. 2 1/2 years ago the Humane Society came after Californias Fish and Wildlife saying the bear population is precipitously low and couldn’t sustain any more legal regulated hunting.
That petition brought forward the departments wildlife biologists who brought forward arguably one of the strongest population estimate datasets ever seen from camera trap surveys suggesting then, almost 3 yrs ago, a very healthy CA Black Bear population.
Today the states black bear population is believed to be around 60,000 showcasing how sustainable regulated hunting leads to healthy wildlife populations.
More to come this week 👊🏻

The country of Tanzania does an outstanding job of protecting its natural resources and utilizing all the tools available in its toolbox to do so - including sustainable regulated hunting.
Here are some water cooler facts:
In total about 40% of the total land mass of Tanzania is protected / conserved. Thats almost TRIPLE what the United States does (~13%).
Hunting areas account for 50% more land conserved than all National Parks combined.
28% of all the land in Tanzania is conserved by hunting concessions. If you asked any conservation scientist what is THE critical component for wildlife conservation? They will all say the same thing - habitat protection.
Next time you hear folks talking about banning hunting - ask them a simple question who will take over protecting these areas? These habitats?

Did you know … 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Did you know the hunting, yes hunting, is saving endangered Sea Turtles around the world. From Georgia to Northern Queensland effective hunting of feral pigs and nest raiding predators is causing increased nest success rates.
Over two decades of work on Ossabaw Island in Georgia (including other measures) has resulted in year over year records in nests.
Dedicated intensive removal of beach habituated pigs has resulted in tightly correlated nest success in Northern Queensland where 6 of the 7 endangered sea turtles nest.
Use this fact in conversations this week. Did you know that hunting is saving sea turtles!!
Share the graphics, blow people’s minds.
All about the #IMPACT of hunting 👊🏻👊🏻

Colorado introducing wolves.
EU thinking about expanding hunting on a very well established wolf population.
Wolf management is complicated.
This isn’t a shoot, shovel, and shutup issue.
This isn’t a we should never kill a wolf issue.
This is a balance of sustainable management of values issue where both sides are unhappy which means you have found the right middle ground.
Middle ground is ok 👌🏼.

All we can say is thank you.
This is especially meaningful to me because I’m lucky enough to raise my kids and have a family in the US.
I get to hunt and explore some incredible places in the US because of those that served.
I get to build a life, and this non-profit because of the life afforded to me from folks that defend our country.
I wasn’t raised in America but I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to raise my boys here.
There is so much more I can say, that would adequately capture the depth of gratitude.
So thank you 🙏🏼
