In the early 90s, when I started my Carnatic music journey, my guru, Thiru G.N. Desikan, charged me a modest fee of 20 rupees, along with an additional rupee for an application form :). Had he charged ten times more, like many of his peers, I doubt I would have been able to continue my musical journey as a child from a middle-class family.

Even back then, my guru had a shruti box that emitted a harmonium sound, unlike the tanpura drones commonly heard today. I always found that drone comfortable for practice sessions, but over time, it became increasingly rare in the market, gradually replaced by tanpura drones.

It was this realization that prompted me to create our app, aimed at making this nostalgic drone accessible not just for me, but for individuals like me.
