I have a short with excellent performance metrics for retention and time watched that's getting 0 traction in the shorts feed. I wouldn't care if I'd just posted the raw uncensored footage. But I didn't. Now the only thing I can figure is, I didn't censor it hard enough. Make it family friendly enough. Good to go, good to friggin go. I'll get mine. I always get mine. Unhinged content incoming.

This one took over a week to make — I started with 2 hours of footage and carved it down to 8 minutes and 25 seconds. I used L cuts. I used J cuts. I sprinkled in sound effects. I even threw in some memes.
I completely rebuilt the opening sequence because Morrigan wouldn’t stop yammering about “viewer hooks” and how YouTube audiences have the attention span of a caffeinated squirrel.

“Put the whole video in the first two seconds!” she said.
“Make it cinematic and clickable!” she said.

Did I follow the advice? Not really. I kept reworking it into something “artistic” and “emotional”... only to realize the frame rate is choppy at the start because I was filming from a helicopter. So yeah — people are probably going to click off before they get to the good stuff.

But you know what? Screw it. I’m done.

It’s the first gameplay video I’ve posted in over a month. I’ve been watching, learning, and trying to make better content — stuff people might actually want to watch.

I'm trying a new content strategy where I make a longform video and use it to create a few shorts from the content, those shorts then link back to it as a related video. Because some people don't like long videos (although I couldn't make a guide longer than 4 minutes to save my life lol) and it's good advertising on the shorts feed.

Anyhoo. That'll be posting like 6 things from the same video, and my gut says DO NOT publish those shorts to subscriptions feed and notify subscribers. I'm grateful for every one of you who subs and I don't want to spam you. I would, however, still publish to subscriptions feed and notify subscribers about one-of shorts that don't come from a long-form videos. Here is a poll to tell me what you prefer.

I was having an existential crisis about whether I should do loot run videos. On the one hand they're popular content, on the other I'll have more competition on my favorite loot runs so I normally only share that stuff with my friends.

Then it occurred to me my friends are the only ones who watch my YouTube so it wouldn't hurt anything if I did make those videos.

Then I had a galaxy brain moment where I realized I don't even do loot runs so I have nothing to share anyway and worrying about it was a waste of time. Thank you for reading.

Sorry about my last 10 hour video. I guess I'd been playing too much before putting it together and didn't think anything of the bugs and frogs. I got it published and tried to sleep to it last night and it was SUPER annoying. Hopefully the new title reflects that so nobody who tries to watch it is disappointed lol.

I was going to try and get this out tomorrow but then a friend said "one more mission" in Gray Zone Warfare, and when I got out and started to edit, the voiceover I recorded a couple days ago sounded high and drunk so rather than rush out garbage I thought I'd just show you what I was working on and let it cook longer.
