20 years in corporate taught me how it breaks people💥 It leaves people stuck and confused 🤔 This conversation gives you clarity and direction ⬇️
Since we all are trying to look fine while we are quietly falling apart inside, I thought a practical guide would be useful to many people.
In the end of the day, it is how you look is important, not how you feel. You should push through no matter what, keep playing by rules, smile, and pretend that nothing ever matters.
This is what I’d thought and how I’d lived my life for decades. Until one fine sunny morning I welcomed a burnout and a bunch of other health issues into my life.
You don’t have to do this. In reality, your goal is not to look fine. You need to get your nervous system back.
Remember: the burnout shows up while your calendar still looks busy.
I had an absolute delight to get together with Jere B once again and discuss the challenges, discoveries, tips and tricks that I have come across during the journey to the light - my album "Moonlight and Sunshine"
What did we talk about? A rough breakdown of the video:
2:40 – Creating inspirational music during shut down 10:47 – various colors of music 18:09 – Musical chess / completing music 20:45 – Writing with freedom 26:19 – Being a Spotify playlist curator for “Multicolored Piano” 32:37 – What I am looking for when reviewing music 34:40 – my dad's influence on my music and my own influence on my children’s music 39:11 – my sound producer Wouter Kronenberg and online collaboration 48:13 – Real musicians vs VST libraries 49:30 – The unasked question
The interview is 1 hour long, but very dynamic and it doesn't feel like much time. Hope you enjoy

Did you know that you can manage your stress at work with techniques that classical pianists have used for centuries?
Classical musicians don’t survive by just pushing through.
They survive by using specific techniques that protect the nervous system:
1. Don’t do only one thing. Alternate your activities to reduce the mental friction.
2. Have a friend… at least one, but from none-work environment.
3. Warm up before doing anything serious. You are telling your body: we are safe
4. Take a really good care of your ego. Separate the feedback from the insult.
5. In any unclear situation, blame the conductor. Do not internalise any crisis at work as your personal failure..

I was feeling summer-ish so an Aperol Spritz music came out. I did have to drink the cocktail once the recording was over!!!
