I have a question. I've noticed that a lot of people on YouTube claim to take on the "hardest challenges" in Terraria, which often means using mods like Fargo's Soul Mod and the Calamity Mod—sometimes with add-ons like Infernum. It makes sense that mods encouraging "GFB" (a high-difficulty mode) can influence players to think of GFB as "cool" or even essential, right?
But is it really necessary? Kind of. That’s why add-ons for add-ons exist: they let people play Infernum in GFB mode if they want, even though the original mod creators didn't design it that way. Yes, it’s intended to be even harder than Death Mode, which, for some people, is already intense enough.
My point is that when players aim for the "hardest mod challenge," they usually assume it’ll be super difficult. But in my experience, combining mods like DLC Masochist and Death Mode is actually easier gear-wise because you have way more options to work with. Secret seeds could spice things up, right? Not really. Personally, I think GFB Calamity is easier than FTW Calamity.
And honestly, Fargo's + Calamity in GFB mode is easier than soloing Fargo’s Souls Maso in GFB mode—seriously, lol.
What’s interesting is that people often overlook other challenging mods, like the Anarchist Mod or the older Frickery Super AA. Even joke mods like Masochist Mode EX tend to get overshadowed by the "big name" mods and add-ons. I’ve almost never seen YouTubers stacking these lesser-known mods, which is strange. But let’s be real, who in their right mind would go that extreme? YouTubers usually stick with the big mods to attract big views, and that’s understandable if they’re creating content for recognition.
Some players also use mods to make the game easier or just wilder, like Overhaul. While Overhaul can break things when stacked with other mods, it’s fun on its own. I personally don’t fully get the "cross-modding" trend, but hey, the game is yours to enjoy however you like!
So, what do you think? Do most people just follow YouTube trends when they choose "hardest difficulty" challenges? Or are they just unsure where to start with all the options?
And let’s be real—WOTG isn’t a real difficulty mod, and GFB is a joke that not everyone gets.
