Task & Purpose was founded in 2014 with a mission to inform, engage, entertain, and stand up for active-duty military members, veterans, and their families. The site quickly became one of the most trusted news and investigative journalism sources for the military, with its journalists reporting everywhere from the Pentagon to the White House and beyond. Videos are produced and hosted by Kyle Gunn.

Task & Purpose

We are working on a video that will be published tomorrow on the alleged use of a "sonic" weapon during the January 3 raid to capture Maduro.

In the account of an alleged eyewitness, which, to be honest, is incredibly thin, the guards protecting Maduro were reduced to vomiting blood and bleeding from their noses and eyes as a result of this mystery weapon.

We have reached out to the White House and Pentagon, but have not yet received a response.

There are known weapons that function similarly, however. The United States has Active Denial Systems that use millimeter waves, along with Long Range Acoustic Devices and Acoustic Hailing and Disruption Devices.

Stay tuned for more tomorrow. -Kyle

The Army has unveiled the M1E3 Abrams prototype with two new photos.

Tough to tell what all this one has, but it appears that a sensor is mounted on the turret next to the cannon that is not on the SEPv3, and perhaps lights/sensors/optics integrated in the front, but few other clues.

Here is our video on the M1E3 from October with what the Army is looking to accomplish here, and how it is reportedly being built for the drone age: https://youtu.be/VqnKhMy9MFs

A Chinese cargo ship loaded with what appear to be missile launchers, radar, and other weapons systems was spotted at the Hudong–Zhonghua Shipbuilding facility in Shanghai.

The ship is the ZHONGDA 79, and in this configuration is shown with 48-60 VLS cells, a CIWS, radar systems, and decoy launchers (they launch decoys, they're not fake), making this an "arsenal ship."

We are working on something on this right now, so stay tuned for the video.

Merry Christmas, everybody.

Wherever you are, and whatever you're doing, we hope you're safe, happy, and healthy. On behalf of the Task & Purpose team, thank you all so much for everything.

Here is a sad Christmas tree from Afghanistan, 2011, on FOB Payne. (I blurred the ladies in the back just in case YT gets upset)

This is what the next battleship will look like...allegedly.

Three guns on the deck, one apparently a rail gun. Three VLS cell banks. Laser weapons. Nuclear cruise missiles. 30,000 to 40,000 tons displacement. For reference, an Arleigh Burke is about 9,700 tons.

According to President Trump, two have been approved for construction, and we will have 10 or up to 25. No word on cost, where the money is coming from, or where these will be built because we don't have the shipyards for them yet.

Will the US actually build a modern-day battleship?

President Trump is expected to announce a new "Trump-class Battleship" to be a part of the "Golden Fleet" shortly.

Details haven't been released, but if it is anything like the "Arsenal Ship" concept of the mid-1990s that never left the drawing board, it will be massive and have hundreds of VLS cells.

For perspective, an Arleigh Burke destroyer takes 4-6 years to build and a Ford-class carrier takes 8-12 years.

As you have probably guessed, we have serious doubts that this is actually going to happen. Here is our video on why it isn't likely: https://youtu.be/KznZKdSkUbU

US troops are headed back to Ecuador, growing the footprint the US has in the region.

Ecuadorians voted last month to keep foreign military bases out, so the footprint will be small, but a contingent of Air Force service members will be based in the country to conduct "anti-drug trafficking" operations.

Our reporter Nicholas Slayton has more details here: taskandpurpose.com/news/air-force-ecuador-manta-ba…

We discussed Ecuador and the other areas the US is expanding its presence in our video below:

The Navy picked the next frigate!

After shutting down the Constellation-class after years of issues, the Navy has landed on the Coast Guard's Legend-class National Security Cutter.

The design is proven, and we know how to build them. So long as we don't go crazy on the requirements, this might just work.
