Here’s how I like to build plates that fuel me, nourish me, and that I actually enjoy eating ✨

1. Pick a protein. Often, this will also include the fat at the meal. In this meal it’s:
🥩 Shredded beef → complete protein with highly bioavailable zinc and B-vitamins for energy production
🧀 Raw cheese → calcium, vitamin K2, and probiotic cultures that support bone + gut health. Protein & fat.

2. Pick a starch. This is the complex carbohydrate, examples include sourdough, oats, potatoes, masa, etc. In this meal it’s:
🍠 Japanese sweet potato → (delicious) + slow-burning carbs for steady energy

3. Pick a fruit (optional). I like combining starch + simple sugars in my meals, and in this meal, it’s:
🍎 Apple → a little sucrose + fiber, vit C + polyphenols (and a little sweetness)

4. Pick the veggie & aromatics. Personally, I love adding green vegetables & foods like onion that have powerful benefits. In this meal, it’s:

🧅 Onion → quercetin-rich + also supports gut bacteria + detox pathways.
🌱 Green beans & herbs → minerals like silica + magnesium, chlorophyll for cellular health, and fresh enzymes.

Honestly, I could eat this for lunch every day. And the best part (for me) it’s mostly all in season right now + local → apple from our farm, green beans & herbs from the garden, and the beef + cheese from Nourish Food Club.

Here’s the thing about plate building though. My meals will look way different from yours, or anyone else’s, because we all have different needs & digestion & preferences.

This is just a basic template I use that helps me put together nourishing meals relatively quickly.
