Welcome to the channel of Ban Zeken.

What can be expected from this channel is random stuff; there is no fixed theme on my videos. Right now I’m in an old-smelly-computer phase so that’s the kind of videos mostly being uploaded currently.

HALF-LIFE (1998): Sound Blaster Live! EAX Sound Test -

drive.google.com/file/d/1Ge9LxoT8auK2LN9igbfe339vK…
Here is a link to a snippet of audio from me playing a bit of the Hazard Course in Half-Life. This demonstrates how the room type/reverb in the "metal pipe loading zone" and the "infinite silo" (as I refer to them) immediately following the pipe behaves on an original Sound Blaster Live! (model CT4620) sound card. The PCI 128 setting in PCem sounds nothing like this with EAX enabled.

Technical details about the recording:
- In the game's audio settings, I only have EAX enabled. It's not possible to enable both A3D and EAX on my SB Live without conflicts. Positional audio is still really good on a SB Live, even if Half-Life is one of the weaker examples regarding elevation filtering on the card.
- Drivers used for the SB Live are the VXD 4.06.654 (EAX 2.0-compatible) drivers (ISO-image of the original CD-ROM can be found on VogonsDrivers). I have also played it with the original VXD 4.05.1026 (EAX 1.0 only) drivers from August/September 1998 but I don't remember if there are any differences in reverb with older drivers.
- Audio was recorded directly from the SB Live sound card to a Sound Devices MixPre-10 II using a decent-quality 3.5mm stereo to dual XLR adapter cable.
- The version of Half-Life being recorded was the original retail CD-ROM edition (version 1.0.0.5).
