A Cry for the Church in Warri

98% of Warri Christians are simply members of a church. They are part of a congregation, but many are not living as true followers of Christ.

This is my personal opinion, based on my own experience.

If you hear the way some Christians—even some pastors' wives—speak around my neighborhood... the gossip, backbiting, pettiness, and constant poking into other people's lives, you may begin to question whether they truly reflect the God they profess to serve.

From what I have personally witnessed, too many professing Christians in Warri are comfortable with gossip, lies, stealing, covetousness, unforgiveness, and holding grudges—even against fellow church members. These are not isolated incidents. They appear to have become normal in many circles, and that deeply troubles me.

If this is the only model of Christianity someone encounters, I can understand why they may reject that version of the faith. Thankfully, Christ is greater than our imperfections.

I am not writing this to condemn anyone. I am writing because I find the situation deeply disturbing.

Before coming to Warri, I believed I was the one who desperately needed help in my Christian walk. I still do. I openly admit that I am a work in progress, and I continue to seek growth daily.

But what I found here shocked me.

I discovered that many of the Christians I met also need help—perhaps even more than I imagined. Worse still, many seem convinced that everything is fine, leaving little room for self-examination or genuine transformation.

Ironically, instead of finding believers who would strengthen and challenge me spiritually, I found myself encouraging, correcting, and teaching some of the very people I had hoped to learn from.

I don't go around advertising myself as a Christian or making public displays of spirituality. But I am born again, and my desire has always been to grow in the practical living of God's Word.

That is why this pains me.

In my opinion, for the next three years, major crusades, retreats, revival meetings, and national Christian gatherings should intentionally focus on Warri. Let Lagos, Port Harcourt, Calabar, and other cities wait for a while. Let our spiritual resources, respected ministers, and church leaders come and help strengthen the Church in Warri.

Imagine themes like:

"Warri Christians Must Get Back on Track."

Whether it is Shiloh, Redemption Camp, Deeper Life retreats, Five Nights of Glory, or any major Christian gathering, I sincerely believe Warri deserves focused spiritual attention.

This is not mockery.

This is a cry for help.

Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor of Word of Life Bible Church has continued to do his part, but one man cannot carry such a burden alone. This is my appeal to PFN, CAN, respected General Overseers, and every sincere Christian leader across Nigeria: please pay closer attention to Warri.

Yes, every community has its bad eggs. No church is perfect.

But if, in my own observation, the unhealthy examples appear to far outnumber the healthy ones, then something is wrong. It becomes a collective concern, not just an individual one.

People may faithfully attend services every Sunday, pay tithes, give offerings, and participate in church activities. But our destination is not determined by attendance alone. It is determined by whether our lives reflect the Christ we claim to follow.

A stitch in time saves nine.

I believe I have done my own little part by raising this concern publicly. I have helped where I could, I will continue to help where I can, and I pray others will also rise to strengthen what appears to be weakening within parts of the Christian community in Warri.

To the faithful believers—the few who continue to uphold sound doctrine, genuine love, humility, integrity, and the true Gospel—may God strengthen you. May He preserve you, and may your light continue to shine even brighter.

Finally, to the people of Warri, especially the Christians in Warri:

If my words hurt you, I sincerely apologize for the pain. That is not my intention.

But I could not keep silent about what I have personally observed.

I genuinely believe God allowed me to see these things so that I could speak with love, honesty, and concern.

Just as we urgently respond when communities are overwhelmed by insecurity, believing they deserve intervention and support, I believe the spiritual health of many Christians in Warri deserves the same level of urgent attention and sincere prayer.

This is my open letter.

I have said what I sincerely believe I was led to say.

May the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with us all, and may He help every one of us—including me—to become more like Him each passing day.
