Motorcycle restorations at home, getting old bikes back on the road down under in Australia.#motorcycle #diy #motorcyclerestoration #restoration #twostroke #rd500 #rz500#classicbike #classicbikes
I’ve just posted a video over the weekend where I’m stripping the second bikes engine - I was a little confused as to what size this engine has been over bored to - lowers were marked “57.5mm” so approximately 1.1mm over the standard 56.4mm diameter. The upper pistons confused me as they didn’t have the windows in and were marked 1.5mm so I incorrectly assumed these were +1.5mm over the standard rd500 bore of 56.4mm (therefore 57.9mm and as big as you can go) - however these pistons seem to be dt125 pistons and standard bore for these is 56mm - so this now means both uppers and lowers are 57.5mm and still have one more rebore to go - and thanks to Bill Wilson I now have the part number for new rings - check out his site below guys wilsonperformance.net/
Coming this Friday bike number two begins its strip down, how long will it take to get to a bare frame? What hidden issues will we find? Why am I getting fat? Is anyone reading this I don't know it's the first time I've used this post thing ...... tune in this week to find the answers to some of these questions.
