Exploring the art of writing.

I'm Grayson, a writer living in New York City. I'm here to help you on your creative journey by sharing what I've learned—and what I'm still learning—about storytelling. After writing my first full-length novel when I was seven, I've authored more than a dozen action-adventure, sci-fi, mystery, and dystopian books. I've also written and directed several short films, composed music, and acted onstage, on TV, and in films.

You can find my books, films, music, and more at graysontaylor.info.

This month, I turned 20. The closing of a chapter, and the start of a new one.

May 5th, five days before my birthday, marked five years since I started writing my ninth novel, Catalyst of Control. It’s the biggest and most ambitious project I’ve undertaken as a writer… hence why it’s taken so long to finish. But now, the first draft is complete.

I can’t wait to share this story with you. Catalyst of Control will be published this summer, and I’ll be sharing more about the book and my writing process here on YouTube soon. To learn more about the book, visit winterforestpress.com/catalyst

Photos from my 20th year of life:
1. Vassar College, February 2025. I’m not in college—just visiting—but I love the Gothic architecture often found on campuses.
2. Venice, May 2024. I turned 19 in Venice—not a bad place to start a new year of life.
3. Yale University, November 2024. Gothic architecture is great, but with fall foliage? Even better.
4. B&H Creators event at INTER NYC, December 2024. In a green-lit room of mirrors—aesthetically evocative of Catalyst of Control.
5. Creator Camp Film Festival in Austin, April 2025. An unforgettable and inspiring weekend bringing together some of the best storytellers from across the internet. Alongside me here are online filmmakers ‪@nathanieldrew‬, ‪@ShafferN‬, ‪@JakeFrew‬, and ‪@EricFloberg‬.

2023 has been a year of change. At the end of every year, as I plan for what's to come, I like to look back at the preceding 12 months. The writer in me can't resist trying to uncover some overarching theme tying it all together.

I think change has been the theme, if you can call it that, of this past year.

In 2023, I turned 18 and graduated high school. I laid the groundwork for my publishing company, Winter Forest Press, forming an LLC for the first time. I earned my second degree black belt in Taekwon-Do and started teaching martial arts this year.

I traveled to New Hampshire, Massachusetts, D.C., Pennsylvania, Texas, Oregon, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana, and planned for my first independent trip to Europe in 2024.

I worked on making videos throughout the year—mostly long-form YouTube videos, but I also experimented for the first time with short-form videos on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. While I don't like to focus on numbers, the change this year brought was the most substantial so far—I went from 200 to 1.5K subscribers on YouTube, 0 to 800 on TikTok, and less than 300 to over 11K on Instagram. I've been amazed and inspired by the comments, questions, and ideas I've gotten over the past few months. Thank you to everyone who's supported my work this year—it means a lot.

And of course, I've been writing. Not always as much as I'd like, but one of the things I've learned over this past year is that good things take time. Art is not a process to be rushed.

I consider this year the first chapter in a new era. I can't say for sure where the story's going, but I'm excited to discover what the next chapter holds.

Thanks for 1K! I'm making a Q+A video to celebrate—what questions do you want me to answer? Or attempt to answer. I don't know what kind of things you'll ask. It can be literally anything.

Ask me in the comments, or DM me on Instagram at www.instagram.com/graysontaylornyc.

New video out now: youtu.be/lFTXSGMdRlQ

I've tried lots of apps in my 11+ years of writing novels, and these are the 5 that have revolutionized my process. With these apps, you can level up your writing, streamline your process, and make your whole experience from outlining to editing more enjoyable.

In this video, I show you how I use these apps to help me write my books.

AI has been in the news a lot lately. And I think it has some interesting implications for writers.

Generative AI, which can produce text and images with a simple prompt, has made shockingly swift advancements recently. With AI programs like OpenAI's ChatGPT, Microsoft's Bing, and Google's Bard, artificial intelligence has entered a period of unprecedented growth.

What does this mean for writers? In a world where artificial intelligence can write almost anything instantly, what will the future be like for human novelists?

Through a fair amount of research (and some educated guesswork), I've come to some conclusions.

This is a truly fascinating—and complex—topic, so of course, I had to make a video about it.

In my latest video, I explore AI writing and examine AI's strengths and hidden weaknesses. I take a look at the latest developments in AI tech, and put ChatGPT to the test in writing fiction.

It's my longest video so far—for a reason—and perhaps my favorite. You can watch it at youtu.be/uL6ENotuA58.

I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
