The Yorkshire Stone Dresser Experience Day

TODAY I HAD THE PLEASURE OF RUNNING A STONE DRESSING EXPERIENCE DAY 🛠️

Meet Andy, who travelled over from Lytham for a day learning the traditional craft of stone dressing.

His wife organised the experience as a surprise birthday present for him.

Throughout the day, I passed on as much of my experience as possible, teaching Andy:

• How to correctly use a hammer and chisel.
• The correct angle for holding and striking the chisel.
• Different varieties and characteristics of natural stone.
• Traditional techniques used by stone dressers for generations.

We even made a half-round coping stone from start to finish.

It’s always rewarding passing on a trade that I’m passionate about, especially knowing how few traditional stone dressers there are left.

What an honour to sit on this man’s sofa this afternoon and listen to him talk about hid 30 years in the trade as Stone Delver/dresser.

Anthony reached out to me last night, saying he has maul hammer that he had for 65 years and wanted it put to a good home. Listening him speak to his days down the quarry & dressing second hand for local yards, spoke with the same passion as myself really touched me. In all my time in the trade & on social media this is by far an experience I will never forgot.

Passing the hammer to me and him saying keep up the good work lad will forever stick with me. I have a got a fair bit of stick recently on social media but this is another reminder just to be myself, not worry what others people think or say.

Thank you mate, I will do you proud

The Yorkshire Stone Dresser

Yesterday I stepped out of my comfort zone and spoke in public for the first time at Installer Show about my trade as a stone dresser as well as demonstrating to a live audience in the Heritage Craft Zone.

As I said the other day I was nervous but as soon as I started bashing my confidence grew and grew. When it came to speaking the words just seem to come natural and explaining how vital stone dressing is the construction industry and preserving Yorkshire heritage.

A big thank you to everyone who wished me good luck, came to see me at the show and has supported me over the years. Thank you to Scan Safety for taking a chance on me all those years ago now and to be sharing this journey together.

Here we go again

Another project due to start where I will be processing this reclaimed stone dating back to 1850 to be reused for a farmhouse built them down way 200 years later.

My biggest solo project to date, slightly nervous but excited.

I will try and get the process documents for long form too for you guys but it’s tough with the demands on my own

I GOT IT DONE - 70m2 Scottish sandstone dressed this week - 205m2 total now.

Absolutely done in but really proud of myself, I thought I would struggle this time with the stone, the weather and no having Daisy but have managed to keep focused and not let my mind wonder.

Really appreciate all your guys support on YouTube. I goign to get more active and back to the long content too. Love you all

Spent the weekend exploring the stunning landscapes of North Wales with the family — a place steeped in stonework, history, and tradition. From ancient castles standing proud against the hills to centuries-old walls shaped by generations of skilled hands, it’s a true showcase of craftsmanship and heritage.

As a stone dresser, I can’t help but see the stories written in every block and joint — the artistry, patience, and pride that went into creating them. It’s a reminder of why I love what I do and how much there is to learn from the past.

I’d love to travel more, capturing the beauty of stonework and sharing it through my own eyes & bring you guys along with the family for the journey.

The winter months are coming in and I just wanna thank all your new subscribers who are just tuning into the channel.

Since my dad passed, I really enjoyed getting back onto the content and all you people are helping me push through with the hard times coming.

I’m not here trying to sell you anything. I’m just a hard-working Yorkshire lad earning a living.

Over the next couple of months, I’ll be talking in more in debt about the Stone industry about myself and why I dress Stone and do what I do so if you can do drop us a follow share it to your friends and let’s get more people appreciate in traditional old school bands and what’s also forgotten most in this country is hard work

Goodbye big lad ❤️ RIP Dad

Hello everyone I thought I would explain my absence recently. My father passed away unexpectedly, he was a good man with an incredible work ethic that he instilled into me and I his words long live in my head “you only get out what you put in”

I have found it very difficult to put the time required into YouTube as well as working, family time, looking after my mum and keeping my other socials going. However my mum sits and watches every YouTube video I upload numerous times because she doesn’t no how to work any other social media 😂 so these next few months are for you mum.

I appreciate all your support, comments & likes. If I don’t get back to the comments I don’t mean to be rude, it’s just very difficult to manage everything sometimes.

Let’s get back to bashing and show that old school is still cool.
