Good people,

Now that I've remade the video on how to learn Old English ( https://youtu.be/FDnc_Qt3Gx0?si=T0E1n... ), I want to start taking time getting back to making legitimate educational resources for learning the language. Step one of that process is going to be remaking the 'comprehensible input' videos I started out with last summer, which were materially decent but shoddily produced. So as to not clog anyone's feed, I'll post these resources on a new channel, which you can find here: youtube.com/@OldEnglishInput

Enjoy!

Thanks so much for 80k subscribers! Who would have thought so many people would have shown so much interest and kind support for videos on medieval philology. I’d most especially like to thank my patrons, without whose generous support very little of this would have been possible.

New video coming out in the next week or so… stay tuned!

If you haven't gotten the chance to check out the latest video, which covers the Venerable Bede's magnum opus (his Ecclesiastical History of the English People), you can do so here: https://youtu.be/Y7mJCmu--ho?si=XeHWu...

Enjoy, and do let me know what you think. Thanks!

The Old English Beginner's Course is live!

Over the month of October, we will learn the basics of the OE language: grammar, pronunciation, orthography, and even conversation. By the end of the course, you'll be able to read beginner-level Old English texts, and (most importantly) you'll have the resources to teach yourself more. Absolutely zero prior knowledge is required.

If you haven't gotten the chance to check out my recent video, in which I try my hand at the Old English practice exam that J.R.R. Tolkien wrote in 1920, be sure to do so here: https://youtu.be/KCaBBSNDhRA?si=deDSn...

And let me know what you think!

Thanks,
Graham

Excited to announce that my first ever book will be releasing later this year!

The Venerable Bede is such an interesting figure, but I have always lamented how few of his works were well known or accessible. Hopefully this new facing-page anthology will counter that.

If you haven't yet gotten the chance to check out my latest video, which covers the absolutely insane scholarly war between Oxford and Cambridge that broke out over Beowulf translations in 1834, you can do so here: https://youtu.be/0Fi-4ksiGKQ?si=nFg2D...

Enjoy!
