I study and make content about languages, primarily Old English and Latin. My series 'Word Æfter Cwæð' brings in for discussion various experts on fields relating to early medieval England, and has featured guests such as R.D. Fulk, Don Ringe, Geoffrey Russom, and Jackson Crawford.

Unbelievably, a new version of Cædmon’s hymn has just been found in Rome, dating to the beginning of the 9th century (less than 100 yrs after the Eccl. History was first written).

It’s probably the third-oldest version we have, and the oldest which includes a different reading in line 5b, coming out in West Saxon as “eorðan bearnum”. Most scholars thought this was a late variant, but now we know it was very, very early!

Salvete socii! I'll be going live playing video games in Latin with ‪@latinitasanimicausa‬ and ‪@corradomrusso‬ around 6pm EST tomorrow on Andrew's channel here: youtube.com/@latinitasanimicausa/streams
You can catch us on Twitch, Youtube, or Instagram: linktr.ee/latinitasanimicausa

Not sure yet what we'll be playing, but whatever it is we'll be speaking entirely in Latin. If you're interested in improving your comprehension or just watching some fun antics in Classical Latin, it would be great to see you there!

Thank you for 60,000 subscribers! What a delight that so many people are interested in historical linguistics and literature.

As always I would like to highlight my wonderful Patreon supporters, without whom the amount of work, time, and effort put into these videos would be impossible. Ēow þanc!

Menn þā leofestan (beloved people),

I’ve decided that I cannot call myself a member of Gen Z without also posting these shorts on TikTok. If you like that platform and want to follow me over there as well, here’s what my profile looks like. Iċ þancie ēow!

(but if you don’t, you won’t be missing anything; I’m still going to be posting everything here)

My wife and I traditionally give each other, among other things, books for Easter. This year she got me an anthology of Christian Latin poetry, a book about Cicero, the Loeb Greek Philosophy reference book, and a three volume set of Plautus’s comedies… in French!

I got her Iris Murdoch’s Something Special, Sultana’s Dream, and a beautiful edition of All Passion Spent.

Hey guys, sorry to have to say this but unfortunately I have recently lost a pretty important battle, and as a result there will be some changes around the channel. All videos after today will now be in French, and all writing will be in Latin, until maybe I figure out how to write in French, or alternatively go back to speaking English (albeit with a lot of French mixed in). I apologize to everyone who liked the Old English content; this is just the way of the world sometimes. Il est temps pour moi de commencer à apprendre le français!

To celebrate/mourn this update, check out today's video on the Bayeux Tapestry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1k9W...
