Guitarist and composer Matteo Prefumo was born on April 8th, 1991 in Genoa. At age of three, he discovered his love for guitar thanks to his father.
He started playing guitar at the age of 8 as self–taught, watching videos of Pat Metheny, Michael Brecker and Jimi Hendrix.
He has studied with musicians such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Peter Bernstein, Gil Goldstein, Antonio Sanchez.
Matteo had the opportunity of sharing the stage with are: Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jeff Berlin, Leo Genovese, Peter Bernstein, George Garzone, Hector Martignon, Tony Tixier, Josh Ginsburg, Johnny O’ Neal, Dado Moroni, Michael Campagna, Francisco Mela, Jure Pukl, Jason Palmer, Stacy Dillard, Uri Gurvich, Aaron Burnett among others.
He has performed on some of the most prestigious stage like Mezzrow Jazz Club (New York), Blue Note Jazz Club (Milan), NAMM Show (Los Angeles), Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club (London), Gregory’s Jazz Club (Rome), JAX Jazz Festival (Jacksonville, Florida) to name a few.

I’m beyond thrilled to share that I’ve been awarded the prestigious "2025 ISJAC Rule Beasley Prize in Jazz Leadsheet Composition" in the U.S. for my new tune, “The Way It Is”! 🎶
This piece holds a special place in my heart, as it was premiered during the incredible tour with legendary vibraphonist Joe Locke. A huge thank you to Joe for trusting me and giving this tune the perfect platform to come to life!
“The Way It Is” was born out of creative sessions using drum loops crafted by none other than my friend and musical hero, Antonio Sanchez. Antonio’s artistry has always been a wellspring of inspiration for me, and I’m deeply grateful for the spark he provided in shaping this composition. 🙏
