An addiction to science, electronics, making stuff, understanding how things work, and passing it all on to you...
My name is Steve and I'm a lifelong maker and amateur scientist and see no end in sight.
Videos are currently being made only every few months as time permits.
My preference for questions is in the comments to the relevant video.
And for anyone who's wondering, the name is meant to refer to our star, which is not on the rim of our galaxy but it's fun to pretend it is. By naming it this way I'm basically saying that any subject matter under the sun (or galaxy!) is fair game for this channel and its companion website, rimstar.org.

Hi Gang! Finally turning my prototype two-wheeled robot into the actual one. So instead of a mishmash of parts taped onto a square board, I'm starting to bolt it all to a circular one instead. Of course, when it's all done there'll be a step-by-step video.

Have an idea to use human brain inspired network to get the speed of my wheeled robot (youtube.com/shorts/KuNoxZp0kLE). It combines what I learned from the book, "The Number Sense", about how the human brain does counting, with a theory of how a pyramidal neuron works from the book, "A Thousand Brains". If I get it working then expect a video!

After much programming, here's where Izzy's at... Now just have to get it to pick an object and look at it with both eyes. And in case you don't know what Izzy is, here's how he was built https://youtu.be/DY4as7Lc9KY.

Hi Gang! I'll admit it... I sometimes go back and watch my own videos. A friend had turned me on to this enjoyable and interesting video titled "A Mathematician's Lament" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ws6qm... and that lead me to re-watch my own video about where I use math. Both videos are similar in that they talk about looking at math as more than just being about memorization and techniques. In my case my real purpose is to show how math can be about the things we build and can be useful. Let's face it, math is awesome!

Hi Gang! Not a new video but I received a comment asking me to list the steps to make it easier to use. Recalling a chapter feature on YouTube, I decided to try it out. Works great! Just hover with your mouse over the timeline and you'll see it's broken up into steps (YouTube calls them chapters). Should make it easier to make this ornithopter. The steps are also listed in the video description (that's actually the trick to making it work (make sure you have the first one 0:00)).
