“Berenice” by Absinthe Kiss was inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s disturbing 1835 short story “Berenice.”

In Poe’s tale, Egaeus becomes consumed by an increasingly disturbing obsession with Berenice, a young woman whose illness dramatically changes her appearance and behavior. His fixation eventually centers on one particular detail — her teeth — leading the story toward one of Poe’s most macabre endings. 🦷🥀

Our song takes that feeling of obsession, sleeplessness, psychological decay and losing yourself inside someone else and transforms it into a hypnotic post-punk atmosphere.

But what if we already live like this?

What if we mistake our limitations for freedom?

“Bubble Mind” is about conformity, closed minds, and the invisible walls we build around ourselves.

Maybe the scariest part isn't being inside the bubble.

It's never realizing you're in one.

“Hey, I’m a person too. Don’t treat me like I’m invisible.”

A listener, @Bryan-k8n3c, left this interpretation beneath our latest release, Threnodic Anastesia’s “Still Human.”

He also noticed the apparent irony: a work created with AI carrying the title “Still Human.” But that tension is part of what the song is about. Technology surrounds us, work reduces people to numbers, and human beings are increasingly treated like replaceable parts. Beneath all of that is still a person asking to be seen.

AI was part of the creative process, but it did not replace the artist. The meaning, lyrics, emotional direction, aesthetic choices and final vision were shaped by a human being.

Distinguishing our work from mass-produced “AI slop” is paramount to us: the same formula repeated endlessly in different packaging. Nocturnal Records exists to preserve each artist’s unique creative vision. It should be visible in everything, from our thumbnails to the releases themselves, each one a fragment of the artist’s dream shared with you.

Every release should feel like it came from someone, not something.

We would genuinely like to hear your perspective: Can you feel the difference between artist-led work created with AI and mass-produced AI content? What makes that difference apparent to you?
