Alisa Dvoeglazova spoke about how she got her injury and the difficulties of it💔
“I was attempting a quad jump, and at the moment when I was pulling my leg back, a piece of bone broke off. At first, I was somehow convinced that it wasn’t the bone, but the ligaments. Those days were like a terrible nightmare. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone, not even my enemy. I was carried on people’s arms, and then I had to be wheeled around the airport in a wheelchair. And I wasn’t taken to the hospital in an ambulance until 9 a.m. the next day, after spending the night with the injury.
I sustained the injury in Kazan, and then I flew to Moscow. I was still injured when I was on the plane. I was carried on people’s arms, and at the hotel, people helped me pack my suitcase. I am very grateful to the team of Eteri Tutberidze for their support; many people helped me. I couldn’t do practically anything myself.
For about two months after the injury, I was working on restoring my basic human needs. It was painful to laugh and cry. The coaches came to visit me in the hospital, they joked and tried to make me laugh. Sergei Dudakov would joke, and I would ask him, “Please don’t make me laugh, it hurts to laugh.” It was very kind and pleasant. The coaching staff came to visit, and I remember that day so clearly. I spent six days in the hospital. I could have stayed longer, but they told me, “Until you learn to walk with crutches, we won’t discharge you.” I had to take a step and pull my leg towards me, but I couldn’t move it. But when they told me that I wouldn’t be discharged otherwise, I immediately learned. I really wanted to go home.
Why is it difficult to be in the hospital? Everything is foreign and unfamiliar there. I was in a room by myself. It was terrible, but I don’t want to talk about it too much or portray myself as a victim.”
“They wheeled me around the airport in a wheelchair. I wanted to disappear into the ground. For an athlete, this is probably one of the most triggering moments. You feel vulnerable, scared, and anxious. My mental state is a little more stable now. Back then, everything was broken, both before and after the injury. There were already some issues since winter. I’m working on it now. I think the injury happened because of a lot of stress and worries in my head.
What were these worries related to? I think they accumulated over the season. I didn’t live up to my own expectations. I didn’t have a single clean performance of my free program. I was really looking forward to it, I wanted it, and I worked hard. It all piled up. But I think this injury was a turning point. Maybe without it, I wouldn’t have realized many things that I’ve realized now. How do I feel now? At the moment, when you’ve already regained your jumps, and the sharpness is returning, it’s a little easier. The hardest part is just getting on the ice. I was worried not only about the injury, but also about many other things. I went on the ice, and it seemed fine at first, but then problems started to arise. Eteri Tutberidze supported me at a very important moment.
My parents also said, “We’ll help you with whatever you want, no matter what field it is.” Through joint efforts, I eventually recovered. At first, I didn’t want to skate. Then I started going to one training session, then two, and gradually I returned to my sports routine. Now I enjoy it.”
💃🏻Artem Fedorchenko spoke about choreographing Adelia Petrosyan’s new program, praising her creativity, determination and willingness to keep working on difficult elements until she gets them right.
