Kampala, Uganda — In a historic and vibrant celebration of Eid, the Eid Day Cup 2026 kicked off in grand style at the Police Arena Stadium along Kira Road, with a spectacular Uganda Police Band parade setting the tone for an afternoon of unity, sportsmanship, and community spirit.
The event was proudly hosted by Ambassador Dr. Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu in collaboration with the Uganda Police Force, bringing together religious leaders, security officials, diplomats, and the wider Muslim community
🎖️ High-Level Dignitaries Grace the Occasion
The Guest of Honour, Ahmed Mohammed Abdulrahman Abdullah Al-Zweidi, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Uganda, commended the initiative and pledged support to upgrade the Police Arena Stadium to international standards, signaling a strong commitment to sports development and bilateral cooperation.
Also in attendance was Hajat Hadijah Namyalo, CEO of ONC, who added excitement to the tournament by rewarding the winning teams with: • 🥇 Winners: $600 • 🥈 Second Place: $500 • 🥉 Third Place: $300 • 🏅 Fourth Place: $300
In addition, the winning team of 34 players received gold medals and a special envelope from Ambassador Ssemuddu.

The gathering brought together representatives from the Uganda Police Force, Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), and the Uganda Prisons Service, alongside members of the Muslim community, to break the fast in a spirit of unity, faith, and national brotherhood during the holy month of Ramadan.
The program featured Qur’an recitations, an interactive knowledge quiz, and inspirational speeches from Muslim leaders within the security forces, emphasizing cooperation, discipline, and the shared values of service to the nation.
Among the distinguished guests was Justice Musa Ssekaana, who delivered the keynote message highlighting the importance of faith, justice, and harmony within Uganda’s institutions.
The event concluded with the Adhan and Iftar at sunset, followed by congregational prayers and dinner, symbolizing solidarity between Muslim leaders and the national security forces.
Ambassador Ssemuddu described the dinner as a platform for strengthening relationships, promoting peace, and recognizing the role of Muslim officers serving Uganda across different forces.
KAMPALA – Muslim women from across Uganda gathered for a vibrant and empowering World Hijab Day 2026 celebration under the theme “Beyond the Hijab: Identity, Dignity & Ramadan Readiness.” The event, organized by the Uganda Muslim Women Civilization Initiative (UWMCI), brought together scholars, leaders, and community members to reflect on faith, confidence, and preparation for the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The program officially commenced at 2:00 PM with arrival and registration, followed by Quran recitation, opening dua, and introductions as outlined in the official event program .
Celebrating Identity Beyond Appearance
Delivering the keynote address, Hajjat Shamirah Namutebi set the tone by emphasizing the hijab as a symbol of faith, strength, and purposeful identity. The session titled “The Hijab Diaries” gave Muslim women an opportunity to share personal journeys of resilience, confidence, and spiritual growth.
Guest Speaker Dr. Ashraf Mutagubya led a thought-provoking discussion on “Beyond the Hijab: Identity and Confidence in Today’s World,” encouraging Muslim women to embrace both professional excellence and Islamic values.
Adding further depth to the conversation, Dr. Hanifah Naamala Sengendo commended the organizers for creating a platform that promotes intellectual engagement and spiritual growth among Muslim women. She highlighted the importance of nurturing leadership, education, and community service among Muslim women, especially as they prepare for Ramadan.
Focus on Ramadan Readiness
The program transitioned into spiritual preparation with sessions dedicated to Ramadan readiness. Imam Muhammad Abdul-Weli guided participants through practical steps to strengthen Iman and prepare spiritually and physically for the Holy Month .
Hajjat Rehema Lutalo delivered an insightful presentation on “Hijab, Ramadan and Children: Training without Trauma,” emphasizing compassionate parenting and faith-based upbringing.
The Ramadhan Quiz and goal-setting session further energized attendees, reinforcing the importance of intentional worship and disciplined preparation.
Leadership and Recognition
The Guest of Honour, Hajjat Sharifah Bukezi (ED-KCCA), applauded Muslim women for upholding dignity and identity while contributing meaningfully to national development .
The celebration concluded with certificate awards, cake cutting, group photos, dinner, and Isha'a prayers, symbolizing unity and sisterhood within the Muslim community .

Donors have once again demonstrated their confidence in Dr. Sofia Safina Kenyangi, the Chairperson of the Uganda Muslim Women Council, by entrusting her with an early Ramadan Relief initiative that has reached over 300 Muslim widows in Bwaise, specifically in Kamali Zone.
The food distribution exercise, conducted ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, aimed at supporting vulnerable Muslim women as they prepare for a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection. The relief packages included essential food items to ease the burden on widows and their families.
The distribution was witnessed by leaders of the Uganda Muslim Women Council at various levels — Regional, District, Twale, and Masjid leadership — demonstrating transparency, accountability, and organized coordination. Among the notable leaders present was Dr. Kulthum Nabunya, who commended the continued trust donors have placed in Dr. Safia Safina Kenyangi and the Council’s leadership.
Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Sofia Safina reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that Muslim women, especially widows and the most vulnerable, are not left behind during Ramadan.
“Ramadan is a month of compassion, mercy, and unity. As leadership of the Uganda Muslim Women Council, we are committed to ensuring our Muslim women observe this holy month with dignity and hope,” she emphasized.
Dr. Sofia Safina Kenyangi further confirmed that the Ramadan Aid program will continue throughout the month of Ramadan, with more distributions planned across different communities in support of Muslim women.
