Rapiers and sideswords actually existed in parallel. One wonders - how would the Munich Town Guard (most examples are around 80 cm/32" of blade, so is this one, custom by Blackfencer) handle someone with a "true" rapier (in this case 108 cm/42" of blade, by SIGI Forge)?
Angel Chernaev (@AngelChernaevHistoricalFencing) called me to help him with this experiment and we were lucky enough to do it in an actual 16th C castle, the Apafi Castle in Dumbraveni, Romania, during the Siebenbürgen Historischer Schwertkampf 2023.
