SUBSCRIBER PROJECT! Shown here is a sand battery and solar powered diode chain heater built by "Mr. N." a subscriber to this channel. I am impressed by the build quality :D 👍 Thumbs up and thanks Mr. N. for sharing!

BEHIND THE SCENES at the Solar Power Edge workshop! 1) Early attempts to blend sand battery storage with thermochemical processes for heat storage. Will it work? I don't know. Dozens of projects happen that never make it to video, and I hope this one makes the grade.

2) Mr. K, a channel subscriber, sent me a package of cool stuff. He wouldn't even let me pay the shipping. It's hard for me to take things from other people but I appreciate his gift. I'll open the package on camera in the next SPE Workshop VLOG.

3) What can you do with vacuum chambers and solar power? That's yet another area of ongoing work. Turns out you can do A LOT. Look for at least one video showing a sample of this work :)

4) Early low-power testing of the semiconductor (diode chain) immersion hot water heater element. Direct PV DC solar powered of course. Video of this project is currently 90% finished. The system can make hot water for showers, or more interesting to me - thermal storage for overnight heating. More on that later...

Hope you guys (and GALS if we have any) like this brief glance into some of the work going on here. I am just now getting back into the workshop after over a month, so it will take a while to get some new uploads ready. Take care!

Upcoming PV to Load SOLAR COOKING Projects - Channel Update

Hello all, I hope you are doing well. This is a quick update about the channel and upcoming videos! Unfortunately I could not do a VLOG - this community post will have to do for now.

First, the number at the top of the page hit 1500. THANK YOU and welcome to all the new subscribers, and also the existing subscribers who are still here! Further I want to publicly thank my brother, who has been helping me with this channel starting several months ago.

***Upcoming Projects***

There are at least 4 new projects about to appear on the channel. They are PV-to-load, cooking and solar related.

***New Equipment and Software***

I normally use a video editor that is about 10 years old, but it does the job. Takes 6-8 hours to render a 30 minute 1080P video in software, repeatedly if the editor glitches or crashes (usually does). So I bought a new video editor to use on the side for some tasks, it has hardware acceleration and may allow production of more content. It takes 10 minutes to render the same amount of 1080P video, although it isn't much fun to use.

Bought a couple of new microphones, the audio still isn't the best but hope it will improve.

Please stay tuned for upcoming content and thanks for watching! -DD-

Solar Power Edge

Hi everyone, a quick note about 2 upcoming videos on the channel. I have been working hard (or, slaving) to produce some new content. The next video will be an UNPAID Product Review relevant to DIY solar power topics. Right after that, Part 2 of the solar heating series will be ready to go. It's gonna be over 30 minutes long.

As I can only produce so much at a time, it would be helpful to see what is in the most in demand at the moment. Feel free to vote or comment if you are so inclined. Have a great day and see you later. DD

Hope everyone is doing well. I did not expect such a response to the PV2L heating video. It's a good thing, past 2 months I was close to calling it quits on the platform. I am really surprised. Thanks for the good feedback from you folks.

As a result, I am expanding the next PV2L heating video to be more detailed (a good balance I hope) and 1080p. Power, calculations, element rebuild, safety info, it's on the way in part 2.

Due to massive video editor failure, I'm limited to ~30 minutes 1080p and lost a lot of time. Future "long" videos might have to be 720p until there is a fix.

Please let me know if there are particular topics you'd like to see addressed. Those might be good for shorter videos focused on the topic, and they are easier to edit and quicker to produce. Have a good evening and take care. DD

Solar Power Edge

Hello folks, for some time I have been heating my home and workshop with solar panels connected to custom built DC low voltage space heaters. They have been working superbly.

After a recent winter storm, I decided to start recording a series of DIY how to videos on the topic, and share the ideas with others. Due to the fire risk and other hazards of this type of technology, due diligence and caution are strongly advised.

The first video (demonstrating one of my latest heaters and starting the DIY build series) will post soon, and there is already a blog post on the topic here: solarpoweredge.com/2022/12/28/solar-panels-can-hea…

If you are interested and want to see more about heating specifically, feel free to let me know. Or perhaps thumbs up the particular videos on my channel that interest you, as I'm more likely to cover those topics further.

I have several of these heaters built now. It seems there really isn't a lot of interest on this kind of topic, which made me hesitant to invest precious time into such recordings - it's a horrifically tedious process. I show less than 1% of what I do in my workshop due to time and other constraints. Thanks for reading, DD

Solar Power Edge

Hello all, hope you are doing well.

This channel now has a blog called Solar Thoughts at solarpoweredge.com/

It will contain both standalone articles and companion articles for some of the videos. It's still in the process of being updated. The topics will be wide and varied but with an emphasis on Solar Power and Readiness.

I hope to use this blog to improve exposure of my work, and also help people with ideas about how they can use solar power and be ready for what's coming.

Thanks for watching (and reading if you're interested). Any questions please let me know. DD
