Hey! I am Jellis Vaes, a mental health coach (studying to become a clinical psychologist). I’m also the founder of Inner Path Seekers, a space for mental health support, and The Heart Warrior Project, a support platform for sudden cardiac arrest survivors.

Both platforms have been created from facing adversities in life. They have, in essence, been created with meaning and to give meaning to others.

My personal YouTube channel here was created as an outlet for me to talk about anything I feel like discussing and sharing. Mostly, this will be in the categories of psychology, meaning, entrepreneurship, and adventures.

Do take a look at both YouTube channels: Inner Path Seekers if you are curious about mental health, and The Heart Warrior Project (if you happen to be an SCA survivor.) You can find both channels here on YouTube.

Either way, I hope that some of the content you find here on my personal channel can be useful to you. :)

In this video, I'm opening up about something deeply personal I've never fully shared before: my journey through depression during my teenage years. From ages 12 to 18, my life often felt like a blur—a confusing and lonely time marked by self-isolation, self-harm, and a constant need to escape reality.

Over the past 14 years, I've had a lot of time to reflect on that period of my life—and to ask myself why I ended up in such severe depression.

Combined with my studies in psychology (I'm currently studying to become a clinical psychologist), I’ve started to see more and more of the puzzle pieces—the ingredients—that led to this dish called depression.

My goal here isn’t just to tell my story, but to shed light on the common “ingredients” that often contribute to depression.

Through my psychology studies, I’ve seen these patterns show up repeatedly. And if you’re struggling with depression, you might recognize them in your own life too.

Of course, I’m also sharing what finally helped me get out of that dark place. Whilst I could have listed countless things, looking back, there are only three that truly had a significant impact on me.

And I believe they can have an impact on you as well—not only because they changed my life so deeply, but because I’ve seen them come up again and again in my psychology training.

Life is full of moments when we stand at a crossroads, faced with three options:

1. Stay Still: Avoid the decision, remain in your comfort zone, and risk stagnation.
2. Take the Destructive Route: Fall back on unhealthy habits or coping mechanisms.
3. Choose Growth: Take the hard but rewarding path of self-improvement and personal growth.

In this video/episode, learn more about these paths, as well as an additional tool—the cognitive triangle—and how these two tools can help you choose the path of growth more frequently.

Hey everyone! Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among 15–29-year-olds worldwide. In some countries, it’s the leading cause. That’s an absolutely horrifying and sad truth—one we can all work on and do something about. How? By learning to perform emotional first aid, which can be done by educating ourselves about suicide and how to support someone in need. Not too long ago I interviewed for the podcast of‪@TheIPSProject‬, a crisis supporter, offering a crash course on how to help someone experiencing suicidal thoughts. Why not take the time today to learn something about suicide and develop this life-saving skill of performing emotional first aid? If we all come together—not just with our hands, but with our hearts—we can begin to slightly reduce these numbers.

Hey everyone! 🎙️ A new episode just released on the podcast of Inner Path Seekers. In this episode, I interviewed Dr. Michael Breus a world-renowned sleep doctor 💤. Almost everyone has questions about sleep and wants to improve it. As we know, not sleeping well for even one night affects us the next day 😴. Many have experienced poor sleep for weeks, months, or years, leading to emotional and physical issues. Yet, people are sleeping worse than ever, with problems like sleep apnea and insomnia on the rise 🛌 (Dr. Breus discusses these in our interview). Modern life, with its constant noise from cities, cars, planes, and early/late work hours, has worsened sleep quality globally. An episode on how to sleep better at night naturally is long overdue. I reached out to Dr. Michael Breus, the sleep doctor, to educate us and provide tips on better sleep. I hope you will find the episode helpful.

As someone who once struggled with suicidal thoughts, I understand the importance of raising awareness for suicide prevention. Every year, 703,000 people take their own lives, and this staggering number highlights the urgent need for education on how to support those in crisis. In this interview on the Inner Path Seekers podcast, Rebecca Hooke, a crisis support worker at Lifeline Australia, offers practical advice and valuable strategies for having conversations with someone who might be suicidal. By learning what to say, we can make a difference and help reduce these heartbreaking statistics. For those who will take the time to listen to this episode and learn more about this topic and how to be there for someone, thank you for doing so—truly.
