Thank you for visiting my YouTube channel.

I perform piano covers of mainly rock music, pop music, film music and a smattering of Irish, Jazz and some originals. These are my own instrumental arrangements and I attempt to offer sheet music on many of my videos.

Life is hard and music is a lifeline for so many of us. I'm simply aiming to add to the vast canon of music by converting all the music which has ever resonated with me in my life on to piano so as to offer you something a little different, quirky, interesting. Why piano? It's my vehicle of expression. It chose me so I'm just rolling with it. I generally reply to all my comments so long as they're civil, interesting, fun or suggesting new ideas.

So please get in touch, drop a comment, subscribe, buy some sheet music, and enjoy the show.

Thank you,

Paul

I'd love to know who you'd love to hear on piano next.

'An Evening With' is a long form video series where I perform a selection of songs which make an artist iconic - I recently began with Oasis which you can check out here: https://youtu.be/5ky-aKwH5Lw

Looking forward to your opinion!

🎹 This is the first in a series of videos entitled 'An Evening With'. It's a straight run through some iconic hits of various artists arranged for solo piano.

I am aiming to capture the music that makes an artist timeless with minimal edits and no frills.

The first instalment features Oasis, and I’d love your suggestions for who should come next.

Hi everyone,

The last time I posted here was on 1000 subs and now it's reached 2000 (thanking you very much). While I've not been as busy in recent years on the channel (mainly family and work commitments) I still have ambitions to return more regularly. I'd really appreciate if you would select one of these options below in answering the following question:

What video category on my channel made you subscribe and/or what would you like to see more of on this channel? Please drop other suggestions in the comments also.

Thanking you,

Paul

Hi guys,

Here's wishing you good health during the pandemic lockdown which we find ourselves in.

Now that YouTube has unlocked this community feature for me, I thought it might be an idea to post something here as my channel grows. In this post, I'm going to offer some thoughts on where my channel has come from, where it presently stands and where it might go in the future.

Firstly, it's amazing to reach a thousand subscribers and I have each of you to thank for that. It is just a number but it's highly encouraging to know that a substantial number of you appreciate my piano covers. I've been on YouTube for 6 years at the time of writing. Starting the channel in 2014 was a risk in my mind because I wasn't sure how it would be received and I thought that the market would be crowded. And, as it turned out, some videos don't perform well and the market is definitely packed with highly talented pianists! But I've ploughed on anyway because I like to think that, in life, I'm only in competition with myself; that is to say, so long as I'm improving my playing, video and sound quality and choice of song/film covers, I must be doing something right.

Which brings me to my second point. Looking at what has worked on the channel and what hasn't has been a fascinating journey. It's you guys who like certain videos and drop very kind and encouraging comments and suggestions and I've always been very grateful for this aspect of the creative process. Nonetheless, I still go with my gut from time to time on trying out different music and some choices go down well while others don't. I think I'm developing a better sense of what works well on the channel through this feedback loop. In addition, it has been a challenge to this day to decipher my best approach to arranging and recording a piece; when I decide to cover a song, do I perform it in a simple instrumental style which uses minimal trickery and embellishment or do I try to add in additional flare from my knowledge bank to make it sound impressive? The problem with the latter is that it's harder to memorise and takes longer to arrange, leaving more of a gap in between uploads. Not to mention, I'm allergic to the thoughts of being perceived as a show-off. However, I've always found the line between demonstrating my natural ability and my best-learned techniques, blurry. There's an ever-present sense of insecurity that accompanies every video where you wonder if this is your best, most honest work or if you're being fake or lazy in some way. It's really hard to step outside yourself and this is why your feedback is so important.

This is where I arrive at my third and final point. I'd love to hear more of your suggestions as to what you'd like to hear going forward. I'm aware that some of you have actually suggested songs and musical themes in the past and that I've not gotten around to covering all of them and so I apologise; I can't always guarantee that I'll actually cover your request. This is sometimes due to time constraints or because I may not see the request working on piano. But, if you'd indulge me, I'd like to use the poll feature soon to get a better sense of what you'd like to hear in future.

Thank you for reading this far and if you've any questions or comments to add below, I'm more than delighted to hear from you.
