Calm Lake Meditation (A Mindfulness Classic for Quieting the Mind)
This is a classic mindfulness practice. It helps you see that your thoughts are like ripples on the surface, while beneath it all, there is always stillness.
How to practice:
Sit or lie down comfortably and close your eyes.
Take 4–5 slow, deep breaths.
Visualize a beautiful, quiet lake at dawn or shrouded in mist. The surface may have gentle ripples—these are your thoughts, emotions, and worries.
Simply observe: the ripples appear and dissolve on their own. There’s no need to stop them.
Now gently sink your attention deeper—down to where the water is completely calm, clear, and still. Feel that deep stillness within yourself.
Stay here for 10–20 minutes.
When you’re ready to finish, slowly return your awareness to your body—wiggle your fingers and gently open your eyes.

Misogi at Home
A Simple Cold Shower Purification Ritual
What is Misogi?
Misogi (禊) is an ancient Japanese Shinto practice of ritual purification using cold water. The goal is to wash away “kegare” — the heaviness, stress, negative energy, or emotional clutter we accumulate — and return to a clearer, lighter state.
You don’t need a waterfall in Japan. You can do a powerful version in your own shower.
Before You Start (Important Safety Notes)
This involves cold water. If you have heart problems, high/low blood pressure, are pregnant, or have any serious health condition, talk to your doctor first.
Start gently. You don’t have to stay under freezing water for 10 minutes on your first try.
Best times: first thing in the morning, before an important decision, after a stressful week, or at the beginning of a new month/season.
Step-by-Step Home Misogi (Cold Shower Version)
1. Set Your Intention (1–2 minutes)
Stand in front of the shower (still dry).
Close your eyes and clearly think or say out loud:
What do I want to release? (example: anxiety, self-doubt, anger from last week, feeling stuck)
What do I want to invite in? (example: clarity, energy, courage, peace)
Take 3 slow breaths. This step is very important.
2. Prepare Your Body (Optional but powerful)
Do these two simple movements while standing in the shower before turning on the water:
Furitama (Spirit Shaking)
Clench your fists and hold them in front of your stomach.
Shake your hands and upper body up and down vigorously for 20–30 seconds.
This helps “wake up” your energy.
Tori-fune (Bird Boat Rowing)
Stand with feet shoulder-width apart.
Move your arms forward and back like you’re rowing a boat, twisting slightly at the waist. Do this for 20–30 seconds while breathing deeply.
3. Enter the Cold Water
Turn the shower to cold (as cold as you can handle at first).
Step under the water.
4. The Purification Chant
While standing under the cold water, repeat this phrase (out loud or in your mind):
“Harai tamae, kiyome tamae, rokkon shōjō”
(Ha-rye tah-mah-eh, kee-yoh-meh tah-mah-eh, roh-kohn show-joh)
Meaning:
“Purify me, cleanse me, purify the six roots (the five senses + the mind).”
Repeat it slowly and steadily. You can say it 9 times, 21 times, or just keep repeating it while you’re under the water.
Focus on the feeling of the water washing everything away.
5. Stay as Long as You Can
Beginners: 30–60 seconds
After a few times: 2–3 minutes
Advanced: 3–5+ minutes
Breathe steadily through your nose if possible. When the cold becomes intense, try to relax instead of fighting it.
6. Finish Mindfully
Turn off the water.
Step out and do not immediately grab the towel.
Stand for 30–60 seconds and notice how your body and mind feel.
Many people report a sense of lightness, clarity, or calm.
Then dry off slowly and get dressed.

Trekchö Practice – Zhang Zhung Dzogchen
This is one of the core (and rarer) practices of Bönpo Dzogchen.
Simple version (for beginners):
Sit comfortably and look straight ahead with a relaxed gaze (or close your eyes).
Ask yourself inwardly: “Who is experiencing this right now?” or “Who is aware?”
Do not search for an intellectual answer. Simply let go of any thoughts, emotions, or sensations as soon as they arise.
Rest in naked awareness — pure presence without content.
If the mind wanders, gently return to the question and let go again.
Start with short sessions (5–10 minutes) and gradually increase.
Note: In the full tradition this is practiced after ngöndro (preliminary practices) and with proper transmission.

The Five Indestructible Warrior Syllables (Five Warrior Sounds) Bon Tradition.
This is a powerful sound practice unique to Bön. The syllables are considered primordial and indestructible.
Syllables:
A — OM — HUNG — RAM — DZA
How to practice:
Sit comfortably with a straight back. Relax your body.
Take 3–9 deep cleansing breaths.
On the exhale, chant each syllable slowly and resonantly (out loud or in a whisper):
A — Feel it purify space and connect you to primordial purity.
OM — Purifies speech and brings clarity.
HUNG — Strengthens the body and energy.
RAM — Transforms anger and inner heat.
DZA — Seals and integrates all qualities.
After each syllable, pause and feel the vibration in your body.
Repeat the full cycle 3, 7, or 21 times.
Sit in silence afterward and rest in the spacious feeling.
Best for: Emotional purification, strength, and clarity. Works very well with ambient drones.
