Let's Race RC — LIVE from the CIRCCC Indoor Champs! 🏁🔥
This King's Birthday Weekend, the crew is down in Christchurch for the 9th edition of the Christchurch Indoor Radio Control Car Club’s Indoor Champs!
Official Qualifying Day 1 is officially in the books, and whew—what an epic day of racing. We have one final round of qualifying scheduled for Monday morning, followed by triple mains for all racers to round out the weekend and crown our 2026 champions.
The Qualifying story so far after four heavy rounds... the form guide has been completely thrown out the window!
🔹 2WD 17.5 Stock Buggy
After a round apiece in seeding, it looked as though the Coombes / Cunard battle would shape up to be epic. John struck first in Round 1, but from then on, Jackson Coombes dominated the day by taking the next three rounds, locking in the provisional overnight TQ!
🔹 4WD 17.5 Stock Buggy
Jackson Coombes topped seeding and came in as the hot favorite. While we expected the Cunard battle to resume, Jackson had other plans, dominating the first three rounds of qualifying to take the provisional overnight TQ. Mark Harling threw a spoiler in the works, though—after running third all day, he claimed Q4 with a massive victory after Jackson stopped short in the run.
🔹 Stadium Truck 10.5
Another Coombes fest out front! With Tim Engel and Todd Lauritzen filling out the top spots, the finals are going to be absolutely all to play for.
🔹 Juniors
Like I mentioned in Sunday's broadcast, CIRCCC has done an exceptional job of getting young racers involved. With Will Sloane’s younger brother, Sam, in attendance, it’s clear the RC gene pool runs deep in that family! But whether it's Henry Houliston or Hayden Palmer, there are plenty of other hard and fair young racers coming through the ranks. The future is looking incredibly bright for RC in the South!
🔹 2WD 10.5 Buggy
Top seed Logan Toia led the way in Q1 and Q2. For Q3 and Q4, he held a steady P2 position with a rock-solid pace mirroring his early run times. With the rest of the pack within striking distance, Q5 is going to be a massive showdown.
🔹 4WD 8.5 Buggy
Logan Toia top-seeded this class, but things didn't quite go his way early on as he essentially built a new car over the course of the day with major setup changes. He made good at the end of the day, though, owning Q4 with the fastest run time of the day! He still sits third overall overnight and will need a absolute blinder in Q5 to jump Jayden Jamieson and Will Sloane.
🎥 WE ARE LIVE FROM 9AM KING'S BIRTHDAY MONDAY! 🎥
Let us know your thoughts on Sunday's qualifying action in the comments below. Who is walking away with the hardware at the end of Monday? 👇
Catch you on the stream!

Lets Race RC - Podcast Episode 4: From Paddock to Podium! 🏆 NZRCA 2026 EP Off-Road Dirt Nationals.
From a small group of guys kicking around in a paddock to running the NZRCA 2026 EP Off-Road Dirt Nationals—the enthusiastic crew at Gizzy RC just pulled off an epic event. For such a young club, they truly delivered.
The Track & Conditions
The layout remained largely the same as the 2025 Gizzy Champs/Super 5, featuring a unique configuration where the track runs away from the driver rather than the traditional left-to-right flow. The surface held up beautifully over four days of action, thanks to a dedicated track crew who kept the water down and surface break-up to a minimum.
The Battle Lines
While the entry numbers were light, the racing was anything but. We saw a clear clash of the titans between the Yokomo and Xray teams. Xray held the upper hand in terms of sheer "Team" driver numbers, but as we know, races aren't won on paper.
Seeding: Setting the Pace
The weekend kicked off on Friday afternoon with seeding. Using the best three consecutive laps over a four-minute run, it was down to the brave to find consistency immediately.
Top Seeds by Class:
2WD Short Course: Flynn Venter (Top 3: 1:23.031 | FL: 27.249)
4WD Short Course: Daniel Contreras-Rojas (Top 3: 1:19.014 | FL: 25.945)
2WD Stadium Truck Stock: Flynn Venter (Top 3: 1:20.381 | FL: 26.617)
2WD Stadium Truck Mod: Shane O’Connor (Top 3: 1:21.765 | FL: 26.837)
2WD Stock Buggy: Kasey Dawson (Top 3: 1:18.993 | FL: 26.162)
2WD Mod Buggy: Kasey Dawson (Top 3: 1:17.955 | FL: 25.936)
4WD Stock Buggy: Matthew Van Beers (Top 3: 1:12.875 | FL: 24.265)
4WD Mod Buggy: Kasey Dawson (Top 3: 1:13.050 | FL: 24.117)
Qualifying: The Dawson Dominance
Easter Saturday dawned bright and calm, though a morning chill and fog kept everyone on their toes. With pristine track conditions and minimal wind, the crew worked tirelessly, watering twice per round to keep the racing fair for everyone.
After three rounds of IFMAR-point qualifying, the grids were set:
The TQs:
2WD SC: Matthew Spackman
4WD SC: Daniel Contreras-Rojas
2WD ST Stock: Matthew Van Beers
2WD ST Mod: Shane O’Connor
2WD Stock, Mod, 4WD Stock & 4WD Mod Buggy: Kasey Dawson
Kasey Dawson threw down the gauntlet early, dominating all four classes he entered. Team Xray had essentially "white-washed" (or should we say gold-washed?) the field in almost every class except Short Course. The big question for Sunday: Had Xray peaked too soon?
Finals Sunday: Championship Glory
Sunday brought overcast, cooler skies and triple finals for all.
Short Course: In 2WD, Flynn Venter took Race 1 and sealed the deal in Race 2 over Matthew Spackman and a returning Alec Webster. In 4WD, Daniel Contreras-Rojas battled to the final race to claim the title, surviving a heavy charge from Matthew Spackman and David Brew. A massive 1-2-3 result for the home club, Gizzy RC!
Stadium Truck: In Stock, Matthew Van Beers converted his TQ into a dominant win in A1 and A2, despite heavy pressure from Flynn Venter. In Modified, Shane O’Connor was in a league of his own, capping off a weekend of total class dominance.
2WD Buggy: In Stock, Kasey Dawson felt the heat from a hungry pack. While Logan Toia’s challenge faded, Flynn Venter forced the title to an A3 decider, which Kasey eventually won by a full lap. In Modified, the tables turned. Logan Toia snatched A1, Kasey took A2, and in a high-tension A3, Dylan Toia upset the pace to push Kasey to 3rd, handing the overall title to Logan Toia.
4WD Buggy: In Stock, Kasey made it look easy, taking A1 and A2 with a "canter" as the challenges from Toia and O’Connor fell away. In Modified, Kasey took A1, but young Dylan Toia turned it on in A2 and A3, dominating from the first lap of the final race to secure the NZ Title.
Final Shouts
A special shout-out to Fletcher Sutherland. His improvement year-on-year is immense—he’s getting faster every time he hits the dirt and is definitely one to watch.
Huge thanks to our Race Director, Julian Hardy. His passion and behind-the-scenes graft are the reason Gizzy RC is where it is today. And finally, to the entire Gizzy RC team—your enthusiasm and hospitality make this a world-class host club. The vibe is genuine, and the track is a true 10th-scale gem: fast, flowing, and full of overtaking spots.
Full results can be found at the links below.
Get ready—the 2027 Edition is heading to Counties over Easter Weekend!

Lets Race RC
The 2026 edition of the NZRCA 1/10 EP On-Road New Zealand Champs is in the books! What an epic weekend it was. While the event was light on numbers, it certainly didn't disappoint on the racing front across all seven classes.
FWD Touring
This class always produces epic racing. With realistic body shells and control motors, it comes down to setup, driving style, and who is willing to "send it." After multiple battles throughout qualifying and the mains, the cream rose to the top. Will Sloane took the TQ over Colin Storey and Logan Toia.
In the A-Mains, Will took the win in A1 with Logan taking P2. In A2, things reversed with Logan taking P1 over Will’s P2. It all came down to A3, where Logan unfortunately gifted the win to Will with a DNF. Meanwhile, Colin Storey battled Craig Pullar for the final step on the podium; Colin prevailed to take third overall.
1st: Will Sloane
2nd: Logan Toia
3rd: Colin Storey
Standout: Mike King. Hadn’t raced on-road for 10 years, built his cars the week of the event, and made the A-Mains in every class he entered!
21.5 Touring Stock
This was the most competitive class of the weekend, featuring fantastic battles across three heats of qualifying. Expectations were high for the local racers to dominate, but South Islander Mark Harling had other plans. Mark dominated all but one qualifying round and carried that form into the finals, wrapping up his 2026 campaign by the end of A2. It was left to locals Gavin Dawson and Jamie Holmes to challenge for the podium; Jamie eventually prevailed over Gavin to take P2.
1st: Mark Harling
2nd: Jamie Holmes
3rd: Gavin Dawson
Standout: Mark Harling. Smooth driving and total domination; he truly brought his A-game.
13.5 Touring Stock
While a little light on numbers, this class had everything to play for. Gael Bueno Ware was the hot favorite against the recent upstart Will Sloane. While Will dominated FWD, 13.5 didn’t quite go his way. As a debutante for the NZ Champs, his speed was there, but consistency let him down.
Errors allowed Gael to be reinstated as the 13.5 NZ Champ. Kenley Brown acted as the "rear gunner" with his Xray to round out the podium, but this class was Gael’s to lose—and he delivered in spades, dominating qualifying and the finals.
1st: Gael Bueno Ware
2nd: Will Sloane
3rd: Kenley Brown
Standout: Will Sloane. Stepping up to 13.5 this season, this young racer proved he belongs at the front.
M-Chassis
Run for the first time in a while, this class attracted five entrants. The battle was realistically between Stephen Li (Speedi) and Craig Pullar. Craig took the TQ and early blood in A1, but a few errors led to an A3 showdown. Ultimately, Craig prevailed to take the overall win.
1st: Craig Pullar
2nd: Stephen Li
3rd: Michael Hawkins
Standout: Craig Pullar, for the "shakeyness" in the post-race interviews!
Modified Touring
The racing here did not disappoint. Yokomo teammates Gael Bueno Ware and Logan Toia locked horns all weekend. A2 proved to be an epic battle where Logan took the fight to Gael. It came down to the final lap and an epic drag race to the line—one of the best races DMaz has had the privilege of calling.
1st: Gael Bueno Ware
2nd: Logan Toia
3rd: Simon Noton
Standout: Simon Noton, for running the Tamiya TRF 421 chassis!
Formula 1
This class never fails to entertain. While DMaz finds this class to be his nemesis, others drove it hard. Gavin Dawson had his eyes on a back-to-back title, but he faced a major challenger in Xray’s Kenley Brown. With the paint barely dry on his body shells, Kenley brought the heat and made Gavin work for every inch of that title.
1st: Gavin Dawson
2nd: Kenley Brown
3rd: Jamie Holmes
Standout: Kenley Brown. He just got faster and faster—he almost needed a fourth final to make it stick!
Demo Class: Hypercars
Running spec motors and tires with realistic shells, this class used the Reedy Race format. It came down to Kenley Brown and Gavin Dawson slogging it out over eight random-draw rounds for P1. While they battled, the "quiet achiever" was Richard Pease. Driving a beautifully presented Lamborghini Hypercar, Richard secured third overall with incredibly consistent driving.
1st: Kenley Brown
2nd: Gavin Dawson
3rd: Richard Pease
Standout: Richard Pease and David Harris for their epic, realistic paint jobs.
The 2026 NZRCA EP On-Road New Zealand Championship, presented by Power HD, is officially run and won. The facility was epic, the café was top-notch, and the vibe was unbeatable. Race Director Richard Price was on point, the racers were on point, and DMaz... well, he was mostly on point!
