**GMC Jammu Tragedy: Don’t Blame the Daughter Who Lost Her Father — Blame the System That Failed Them All**
*By Raghav Khajuria, State Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir Youth Congress*

The heartbreaking incident at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, where a young girl lost her father due to alleged medical negligence, and was later **arrested for reacting in grief and frustration**, is not just an isolated case—it is a glaring example of **administrative collapse, human tragedy, and misplaced blame**.

Let me say this clearly: **This girl didn’t attack a system. She was failed by it.**

**A Daughter's Cry for Help, Not a Crime**

Imagine watching your father die in front of your eyes while you run from room to room begging for help—only to be met with silence, carelessness, or absence of staff. That’s what happened. In a moment of unimaginable grief, the daughter reacted emotionally—a natural, human response to an **inhumane situation**.

And what was the administration’s response?
Not accountability. Not an apology.
Instead, **they arrested the girl.**

Where is our humanity?

**Doctors’ Protest: Misguided and Disappointing**

Instead of demanding better working conditions or protesting against an administration that failed to support both patients and medical staff, some doctors chose to protest **against a grieving daughter**. That is not justice. That is not solidarity.

Doctors should be standing **with the people**, not shielding an incompetent system.

We, the Youth Congress, fully support our doctors when they raise their voice against poor facilities, overwork, and lack of resources. But in this case, the protest has been **misdirected at the wrong person**—a young girl who just lost her father.

**The Real Culprit: Administrative Negligence**

The situation at GMC Jammu is the direct result of:

* Lack of emergency duty rosters
* No proper night-stay arrangements for doctors
* Insufficient infrastructure and patient care systems
* No grievance redressal for distressed families
* A culture of protecting officials while **criminalizing victims**

If even today the administration cannot ensure basic dignity, care, and response in a hospital, then it is not a healthcare system—it is a humanitarian failure.

**We Demand Justice and Reform**

On behalf of the Jammu & Kashmir Youth Congress, I demand:

1. **Immediate release and fair treatment** of the girl arrested after her father’s death.
2. An **independent investigation** into the medical negligence that led to this tragic loss.
3. Administrative reforms at GMC Jammu to ensure no patient or family suffers like this again.
4. Doctors and staff should unite not against the public, but **against the system that fails them too**.

This incident is not just about one family. It is about **hundreds of others** who face the same risks every day due to administrative neglect.

Let us not allow this daughter’s pain to be ignored or punished. Let this be the moment when we **stand up—not against each other—but for justice, dignity, and a better healthcare system
